    What I am working on

In response to Sandy F, what she was working on, I am doing Quilt As You Go for a much modified version of
Crabapple Hills pattern, Hook, Line and Sinker. HelenW

When I'm not working on Color My World, I'm working on Wendy William's Round the Garden. Another circle design but this time wool felt applique on linen with lots of embroidery. It's all hand work. It's also lots of work. I've finished the inner ring and am now doing the flower ring. The outer ring will be more interesting.

It took me most of July to complete the flower ring. Added all the stems in variegated greens. The finishing flowers are small circles and colonial knots. You have to look carefully to see the difference in the two photos. Unlike the 2021 BOM, the outer ring will continue the circle.

Liberata T - I love this. I have Wendy's Round The Garden pattern and want to do it using wool applique. I love all the embroidery you are doing.

Is it just me but I check in everyday and I just saw this conversation this morning.

Progress report. I’m still working on my 2008 BOM (Bouquets for a New Day) and have had several OOPS! Moments. I quilted the blocks individually and joined them using a 3/8” seam allowance. I pressed the seam open and covered the open seam (on front) with a 1” sashing that I hand stitched. I still need to sew the 2 halves together and cover with 1” sashing and then I will be ready to attach border.

My OOPS! Moments – My original sashing was not wide enough and I did not have enough of the fabric to recut the sashing and still have enough for the borders so I switched to a red marble fabric leftover from quilt I made for my son. With the wider sashing some of the appliqued flowers and stars had to be un-sewed and resewed allowing them to float onto the sashing.

Sandy F, I am getting close to finishing my hummingbird wall hanging. I made one that I gave away as a gift for a friend, and I liked
it so much I am making another for myself. I like using favorites from patterns to put into other combos to get everything I like all
together. I took hummingbirds from Hummingbird Lane, and dragonflies from Dance of the Dragonflies. I like changing the sizes to fit what ever spot is available. I usually like to do my quilting first and then applique onto the quilted wall hanging. HelenW

Beautiful!!! I especially love the dragonflies and the backgrounds are beautiful. I have not tried quilting and then appliquing but I want to try it. Do put batting or interfacing on back of the applique to prevent quilt lines from showing through?

Sancy F. I do a variety of things with the applique. The dragonflies have turned edge black background, then steam a seam
for the colors on the dragonfies. Then I edge stitched and stitched between each of the colored pieces with black thread.
I sometimes window out the steam a seam so it does not plaster the the fabric to the background fabric. But I used steam a seam solid
on the back of the flowers and no quilting showed thru. If I did one, and it showed the quilting, I would window the rest.
You could use interfacing and that would work great too. HelenW

Most of the time I like to use a stabilizer for my needle turn applique but have found that the same technique does not work for every project. I had to order some additional fabric for the borders of my 2008 BOM quilt so it is on hold for a few days. Hope to get another block finished on my 2014 BOM, A to Z for Ewe and Me while waiting. To bad work gets in the way.

Sandy F, This is a good place to show me a picture of what you have done so far on your A to Z for Ewe and Me since that
is what you are working on. I like to bounce around from project to another. Like a hummingbird hits all the flowers. Think I will go back to doing the applique on my Kaleidoscope this week. HelenW

I'll try to remember to take a picture when I get home from work.  Two of my grandchildren come over after they get home from school and I get home from work.  After a couple hours, I take them home and eat dinner with them so Wednesdays are busy.  I worked on the "M" block yesterday and when I finished it was 1/4" smaller than it should have been so I have some un-sewing to do.

Sandy F, Here is my little dragonfly that I downsized from my Dance of the Dragonfly pattern. This is about 20% size.
I did turned edge for the wings. Fusible for the pieces on the wings. The body is ultra suede with fusible. I do the edge
stitching using parchment paper. Then rip it off after stitched. It works well for both turned edge and fusible, because
fusible can be pulled off parchment just like teflon sheets for applique. HelenW

I haven't taken an up-to-date picture of my Ewe and Me Quilt yet but I will - soon. I have attached the border on my Bouquet For a New Day Quilt. I thought I needed to quilt the border similar to how I quilted the blocks and I love to quilt grids. I decided midstream to quilt down into the curve so I have to go back and finish the first downward curve. I also think I am going to do an another row of quilting on the outside of the curved line to make it stand out more.

Used Alex's class to motivate me to finish a UFO. I had a fox face (Toni Whitney pattern) that I was trying to thread paint.
Put it away a couple years ago. When Alex started her foundation paper piecing sampler class, I pull it out with the idea
of doing a paper pieced background. I did not want to do the sampler because I have been paper piecing for a long time
and wanted to try something new. Glad I went with my idea because I like the way it turned out. Now I have started
Enchanted Garden pattern and having lots of fun. Adding a little addition like bees, hummingbirds etc. to each block.

Home for the Holidays... Inspiration was from a Buttermilk Basin pattern Home For the Holidays. I made a Christmas
Welcome hostess gift. The house is from a picture of the house they just finished building on lake Coeur D Alene in North
Idaho. Any one else making Christmas gifts or quilted decorations? HelenW
