I think I will try Margo's paper piecing idea. I am good at following directions and a pretty experienced piecer. Nonetheless, the whole strip piecing and template on the ruler thing seemed off-putting to me, so I can imagine a newbie would be knocked back a bit, to say the least. However, I really like the pattern, and paper piecing sounds doable to me. I am always willing to learn, and I found the directions and photos very clear. So maybe after I paper piece a strip, I will try the other way as well.

Well that's a pretty cool thing that I didn't even know I had. Thank you Margo. It did a great job at capturing everything, but it didn't print very well at all on my printer. I may just have to practice the technique you and Annis showed downstairs by my computer.Originally posted by Margo

JoJo, you can increase the size of the images in Word by clicking on the image handles. There is a limit to how much you can do this before you lose clarity, but I copied an image that stretched to 8 1/2 by 11 and can read it fine. You might also consider checking the resolution of you printer. I wouldn't print on draft.Originally posted by ladyquilterIt did a great job at capturing everything, but it didn't print very well at all on my printer.Originally posted by Margo

I liked Annis' tip about printing patterns on vellum until I tried it on my printer. After trying to trick the printer in properties, then asking the internet, I used painter's tape to tape a piece of regular paper to the vellum with a thin edge of tape. That worked.
I never pieced with vellum before. Wow does it tear cleanly. Nice!

I use Office Depot item #345-854. It's a translucent vellum paper made with 100 per cent cotton fiber. You will find it in the section with tracing paper. It comes in a 50 sheet pad of 11 x 17 paper. Letter size paper is also available on their website. I've been able to use it in every printer I have with no problems. I use a paper cutter to cut the sheets in half and remove the glued edge.

I have an Epson. When I did the internet search, I found others that had a problem printing vellum with this printer, too. Evidently, if a printer has a "Transparency" setting under Paper/media, there may not be a problem. I just wanted others to have a heads up, if they choose this route.
Mine came from Staples, fiber content is not listed, although it says inkjet compatible.

I will have to check that out and compare it to the Office Depot which is a 16 lb. vellum. I'm printing on a Canon, Epson, or HP, depending on which computer I'm working on at the time.Originally posted by suehenyonStaedtler 100% Rag Vellum prints beautifully. Whew! The other vellum I have is the weight of wedding invitation inserts.

Annis, I think I got the same as you. This link shows what I got from Staples, but Office Depot only has it online. Online says it's 16 lb, but that is not stated on cover of the pad. I love the visibility from the back side. Thanks!
