This looks like a great project! There's a fabric I've been looking at but didn't know where to use. I think it would be good as the theme fabric here. The rest looks like a good way to use up scraps and fat 1/4's that have been accumulating with no real project in mind.
I hope they give us the yardage so we can begin gathering fabrics for this project. Can't wait to get started on this. MargeFrom the edge of Sherwood Forest, home of Robin Hood

I was able to see the new BOM quilt and it is a wonderful teaching quilt. Some of those pieces are pretty tiny! As in VERY tiny. But Sue assures us we can do it and her directions are very good, I'm confident.
I managed to collect many different fat 1/4ths while walking around yesterday at Quilt Festival so I think my colorway is taking shape. This quilt will be an excellent way to use up scraps and FQ. You won't need to purchase large pieces of fabric unless you just WANT to do it that way!

I have actually already made my own version of the 2009 BOM in order to test the patterns for Sue. What I did was choose a "focus" fabric, and used it to choose fabrics from my stash to make the quilt. Because I don't usually buy large pieces of fabrics I have LOTS of little pieces, I think I wound up using about 50 different fabrics, and love the way it has turned out. It is my understanding that the quilt fabric kits will be available in the TQS Shoppe soon, but because most of the kits that they brought to Houston have already been sold, and the rest of the kits still need to be cut, it could be a while before they are ready.

The fabrics that Sue used were chosen by someone at TQS. She used what they sent....just like anyone who buys a kit can do! Her directions will tell you exactly which fabrics she used in each block, so you can exactly duplicate her wonderful quilt. And trust me...it looks ever so much prettier "in person" than it does in any of the photos I've seen of it.
The kit fabrics were not available to me, and personally I like a much more scrappy palette. I just happened to find a floral that had colors that I wanted to work with, but you certainly don't have to use a floral. In fact, after seeing what was done with the Bouquets blocks, Sue and I are really looking forward to seeing what the bomettes come up with for this design!
OK...I've just posted pictures of all of the fabrics I used, but I've got to tell you that the color is WAY OFF in the photos. Where's PhotoMan when you need him???

I am not the person to give you the yardage, but maybe if several people send requests to the CONTACT page, they can be made available before the end of December. I HOPE SO!
I can tell you that except for the large triangles around the center star, backgrounds and "floater" strips, you can get by with very small pieces!
I also want you to know that if you are intimidated by the multitude of small pieces in the quilt, Sue's directions include alternate, less complicated replacement blocks for almost every unit! I am going to make a simplier version for my niece!

I went ahead and bought the kit at Festival, I felt intimated enough in looking at it, that I figured I'd better not stress myself even more by picking out the fabric for it as well, and since I really did love the colors that were picked, I didn't think I could come up with anything I'd have liked a lot more, and yes the "real" quilt looks much better than in the picture, Lilo told me that she'll take another or several pictures of if it and will post the best one as soon as she can in hopes to achieve a more "true" look of the colors. I've never done a medallion either, especially NEVER done a feathered star, it'll be a learning experience for sure, but that's a good thing. Heidi
