Yes, you need to use a very thin needle made for beading. Some of my quilting needles have been small enough. I will say that even with a beading needle, some glass beads will still be to small to get the needle thru.

Thanks Ritzy...Appreciate your help...I just uploaded my August block. I didn't like the light green stems I used for the baby breath, so I found some crewel embroidery yarn and I couched over the stems. I will add the beads after I decide which four blocks I will use for a wall hanging. Thanks again. Nan F.

Judy-Great block! I love the embroidered inset! Things like this are making me want to get an embroidery machine!

Nan-Your block looks great! The great thing about the BOM is that you can take your time to work about problems and details!

Thanks everyone, this has been my favorite block of the BOM so far. Which one is September?

Judy the colors of the big flowers are so pretty and the embroidery fits the vase so nicely.

What a fun idea to put the embroidery in the center of the vase :-)
                  I love it

Got my August block posted. I can't wait to start embellishing but I'm waiting til the end because I'll be doing some domestic machine and some longarm thread painting. What fun!

sorry to be so late with adding this entry but for beading you need a needle that is the same circumfrance from point to eye. Milliners needles and needles especially for beading meet this criteria. So find the smallest straight needle you can for the tiny (seed) beads etc. and you should be fine although you will find the occasional bead that doesn't have a big enough hole to thread. Throw it away right away or you will pick it up more times than you want to (ask me how I know) and sometimes you will get a bead that the holes on both sides are not quite lined up. Hollow beads like the Chinese laquer beads are notoriously bad for this, you can spend a lot of time finding the opposite side hole. Larger beads and most pearls work well. Beads are all individual and the better quality the easier to sew. Ann

Judy, the center embroidered in your vase is gorgeous. I've been trying to figure out what to do in my center since I'm not happy with it. I just might have to take inspiration from your idea; if I do, I hope you don't mind.

Thanks eveyone for the help with the beading question. This is one craft I think I missed out on through the years. Lots of hand needle work along with crochet and knit and making clothing for my family and myself. Now it is more fun time for me..... Quilt blocks and machine embroidery. Thanks again.... Nan F.

Cathy, great block, but even GREATER news about the scan! The real horror of cancer is wondering if any new pain or sign is a return of the cancer. My prayers of God's healing to your daughter-in-law.
