I'm finished with month one!!!! Happy dance! The hand applique took way longer than I thought, and the mitered border was a challenge for me. I had never worked with a border stripe before. Margo, your instructions were right on. I starched the heck out of the fabric. I discovered that when cutting the triangles, that I had to cut 4 going one way and 4 the other. I originally cut 5 pointing south and 3 pointing north. Had plenty of fabric to recut 1 more going north. It measures 21-3/4 inches, just like it said in the instructions.

Good for you, Kathy!! It looks wonderful, and I'm glad my instructions helped!
Yes! You definitely need to reverse half of them!! Instructions on page 4:
I cut four triangles like this, then reversed the template and
cut 4 more as mirror images.
Mark your template with whatever lines you need in order to cut four
triangles exactly the same, then flip the template over and cut four more
of the mirror image.

Well, I read it several times but it did not reach all the way into my brain. I was so stressed about pressing the fabric
straight, marking the cutting lines, and then thinking about sewing the triangles together, that not everything stuck. For sure, now I know and would be able to do this again.
I'm cutting and starching the rest of the fabrics like you went over in month one instructions, and feel much better now!
Now for month two, foundation piecing is more my usual method so hopefully that will be less traumatic.

Sue Garman said that this quilt is about a 6 or 7 out of 10 on the diffculty scale, and Stars for a New Day was about a 9 out of 10. For me, it is reversed- this one is about a 9 on the difficulty scale. This is making me stretch which is good! Kathy

Originally posted by gynconnieKathy, your block looks perfect! Just as good as Margo's! In fact, when I first saw the picture I thought it WAS Margo's block. Maybe you can be Margo's "stunt double quilter"!
I did change the flower colors, used yellow centers. Her mitered corner was exactly the way I wanted mine to look.
Thanks for the compliment.

I hope everyone will be MY directions testers, 'cause I'm out in this boat all by myself, and I am NOT a trained professional!!
Please let me know if you find anything that I need to change in the Beloved Beauties directions!!

The directions from you and Sue are much more complete that some I've run across. You have explained many of the pitfalls that might happen if we don't pay attention. And truly, when working on this one or the 2009 quilt, I can see the thought and planning that went into the design and the instructions. I'm in a profession where things have to be exact, and definitely notice when someone is good at laying things out so people can understand what to do. So, many thanks to you and to Sue Garman for making the seemingly impossible do-able!
Kathy, moving on to month 2

Eileen, if you are waiting to "find" time, it may not happen. If you really want to get anything done you have to MAKE time for it.
Treat it just like any other important appointment! Put it on your calendar! Schedule it into your other commitments.
Set aside a specific time to work on it!
You can do it!
