This is the William Morris stripe I used for the baskets. I bought it some time ago and was so excited when I realized I could use it in this quilt.

These closeups show the colors and details better than the big picture. One of my favorite parts was the baskets, and I usually don’t like baskets. For the basket part I fussy cut a stripe and I love how it turned out. It is one single piece. I used two different stripes throughout the quilt to frame some of the blocks.

I’ve been obsessed with this quilt since I saw it. After I made the first 8 blocks, I couldn’t stop. Everything is from my stash, from 30-year-old Moda fabric to Carrie’s Caramels and Creams (a favorite), to current William Morris. I knew I didn’t want to do appliqué, so I replaced it with some of my favorite fabrics. I enlarged the center star and echoed the design around it rather than using flying geese. I made lots of other small tweaks. Now I’m trying to decide how I want to lengthen it. I wish my camera did a better job of capturing the colors.

I finished 3 of the 12 so far. I am using the same fabric for all the hearts, center circles, and berries for all 12, but using different fabrics for the petals. I used freezer paper, starch, and a long pin to turn the edges of the applique pieces. Added a touch of Roxanne’s glue for placement. Then I used my Bernina to blanket stitch to the background. I usually hand appliqué… but I have 3 other projects going on right now…

I’m appliquing the hearts first, next I’ll attach the black circle. In my mind this is easier. Have the hearts ready to sew on, a tonight watching TV task. Lorry

I love these blocks! You have a real talent for fabric selection! And piecing…and appliqué!

A question for you. I am still new to applique. Would you ever applique the heart onto the circle fabric, first, and then cut out the circle and applique it on?

They look good to me. But I am a lover of Rosa Rojas applique
sticks. If there are quilters reading this that have not watched her
show, it is well worth the time. It is excellent!!! HelenW

I have 2 done but not happy with the way they look. Not very accurate. Used needle turn method. Now going to Rosa Rojas method
these were not fun to appliqué and I like to do applique. Keep you figures crossed.

time I am just playing around with the fabrics in EQ8.I included 2 of Barbara Blacks blog alternatives if you
    substitute pieced for applique HelenW
