CHANGE the SIZE of Your Quilt

Today’s blog explains how you can change the size of your quilt:

This was very helpful. I'm both changing the size of my quilt and charging the internal medallion. I'm using a 40 x 55 applique in the center. Like Babara I have electric quilt but you could easily do this on graph paper. The nice part of electric quilt is I put a photo of my applique in the center. It's not perfect because I didn't feel like spending an hour toggling controls to make it fit the space, but you get the sense of it.

One thing that mocking it out helped me was on changing some fabric placement. To work with my theme, in my quilt the star points will be the lightest fabric.

I've already posted elsewhere but here's my mock up.

Barbara, Love your blog on resizing Laurel Ridge. I think I might go for the 62 inch size. I saw where you said to imagine
the center block. In EQ8 if you are using custom set, you can take a screen shot of the center of the quilt and import on
images worktable as a photo. Resize to 20 inches.Save to sketchbook. Then on the quilt worktable go to photo tools and drag the center into the quilt
and click on center horizontal and center vertical. I use drawing blocks and adding photos of complex blocks all the time.
Not hard after you have done it a time or two. Thanks for the Ideas on your blog. Since the fabrics I want to use don't come out until late spring, maybe I will get a 62 inch one done in 2025. HelenW

Thank you so much Helen! That’s very kind of you!
I’m still searching where to buy the EQ8 software - I found a deal on Amazon (ship by Amazon, sell by “Kart It”) for $160, much cheaper than buying directly from EQ (~$240). Not sure if it is legit though, so I’m checking with all my friends… May I ask where did you buy yours? Any advice on this?

Alice, I bought mine a long time ago from EQ8 website. I just looked at the good prices at Amazon and they are really low. Make sure if you go with Amazon that you get the EQ8 software and not
just the software for upgrading (like from EQ7) that offered that at Amazon too. EQ8 website has discount
codes at most major holidays, so I would think they would have one for Valentines Day. Normally it is for 20 or 30% off. I have had good results when buying from Amazon, but it being software, I don't know if they would let you return it, if it is opened. I think they have special rules for software.

Thanks for the advice! This is very helpful.
I’m probably too old to learn new software But you, Barbara, and Pat’s wonderful drawings inspired me to give EQ8 a try.

I am making Laurel Ridge for my king sized bed, so I was thinking about enlarging it by adding an extra border (3" - 5"). I want to be sure to not make it too big (100" max) so that I can still use a 108" backing.

In case you do want to go a bit bigger, I am now starting to see either 115" or 118" backing fabrics. I can't remember where, now, as I get emails from lots of quilt shops and fabric companies, but I was excited to see the larger size listed - I'm pretty sure there were a couple of places, not just one, although it could be the same fabric line being sold by different stores.

The people at EQ are some of the BEST you could deal with. User support is top notch. I wouldn’t buy their software from anyone but them, as I have from the beginning, EQ1, many years ago. Watch for discounts by signing up for their newsletter on their website. No connection other than being a VERY satisfied user.
