Month 1in the books! I’m using some striped fabrics so I chose to appliqué my house instead. The windows will be added as buttons when the quilt is finished.

I love your color palette. Neat idea to use buttons for windows. Looking forward to following quilt progress.

    Hi Barbara,
I am so glad to be joining you this year for BOM. I did Color My World with you and thought it was just great. I do like to paper piece, so this one will be a bit of a challenge. When you said that we could create a paper pieced building, I thought what a good idea, something I can do. So, as you can see, I changed up my building a bit. I think I might change all of them a bit, just to make them different. One of my questions is, will all the building blocks be total size 6.5 inches?

Looking forward for the months to come.

Hi, Linda. No, the cabins in the outer border are not 6.5”. They are a different size and configuration. While the “cabin” is 4” FINISHED, they are made from different parts. They can be paper pieced and I will have a blog about that when we get to Month 11 when they are made.

So I finally got some time in the studio to get January's done! I'm doing this BOM mostly to get back to my roots and to hone my traditional quilting skills. Honestly, I can't even remember the last time I actually followed a pattern with someone else's instructions so that was fun. One of the rules of this quilt is that I make it exactly how Sarah instructed (I would have paper pieced the cabin too). I did manage to do my bias stems the way she instructed although Sarah makes it looks so easy. I think it's more of an acquired skill! It was fun to hand applique again though! I used Wonderfil 100 wt thread and the stitches are invisible! Lookin' forward to next month!

I changed my house block and went with a different border. I was looking over all my fabrics and the original fabric I had, I just couldn't get anything from my stash to go with it & the star points LOL Here's Then and Now

I struggle with that too. I suspect it takes practice.

The funny thing is that the Hera Marker has sat in my "tool" cup for four years forgotten. Finally, a reason to use it! shrug...I'm game...that's what these types of quilts are fun right?!

This is my third house. Created pattern for paper piecing from Barbara’s suggestions. I am use to sewing small blocks but was this a challenge. The vines for month 2 are prepared. Thank you Barbara for the hint. I enjoy watching the tutorials. Also working on border (appliqué)

My cabin block and star points block. Loving my fabrics, as they will look great in our family room. I plan to hang this from the loft railing over the family room.

Wow I just want to say how much I like the strong use of value in your choice! They might look good in your family room but they are super striking. It gives it a nice graphic look to it!
