    Preparing fabric

I am very excited as I received notice that fabric has been shipped. Does this fabric need to be preshrunk or will ironing with starch be enough prep

so excited to get the learning started!

The Kit fabrics are in varying widths, some as narrow as 2”. That doesn’t lend itself to pre-washing. I just started using the Kit as is. When the quilt is complete I will wash with Color Catchers for any bleeding.

Barbara, sorry for asking but the pattern states strips are cut by length of fabric…got it…ha. Will it be shared next month for how much fabric will be required for each color ? I am not purchasing the kit, obviously. Hopefully, this helps others.

All the fabric requirements are listed now in the Introduction document. You can see every fabric used in the Kit and the amount of each. Use that information to customize your fabrics as you choose.

Barbara, will we be getting an image of the first month’s block before the pattern drops so we can plan fabric for that section?

No, the pattern will be up first thing January 1, sometimes the day before. There are few choices for the first month so it will be easy to make your choices. You can always look at the Fabric Requirements document to see what Kit fabrics are used in Month 1 if you really want a head start.

SECRET TIP: we make the center cabin in Month 1.

There's a lot of circles in this quilt. Would a set of Karen Buckley's Perfect Circles be a good thing to have on hand?

That is what I used. But I now have the Template Set and just watched Sarah's video on how she uses it. Her method is worth a try if you bought the Accessory Kit that includes her templates.

If you prefer, Karen's Perfect Circle templates are the correct size for the many circles in Months 2 and 3. I prepped them before I went to Houston for two weeks in October ,so I had plenty of handwork for the evenings.
