QUARTERED STAR
PANEL SIZE: 7” x 4-1/2” BLOCK SIZE : 1-1/2” X 1-1/2” (each individual star)
You need to cut the background 4-1/2” x 5”.
Why not a third block using paper piecing ?
If you wish to make this block the “traditional” way, following the instructions, you will have to cut each HST to 1” x 1”.
But, I prefer to paper-piece this one in columns.
For each little triangle, I cut a square 1-1/4” 1-1/4” (a little oversize to have room).
I think the design can be split in 3 sections: the stars, the background, and “sort of” a ribbon that swirls around the stars. So, whenever 2 triangles would be of the same section, I would consider them as one unit (same color) and make the fabric bigger: a rectangle 1-1/4” x 1-3/4”.
On the foundation, I marked with an “X” the lines that would be removed.
I cut my fabric and placed in the order that the units are sewn. I sew each unit alternating from the top-down and from the bottom-up – so the seams can nest if need be.
When I start piecing a unit, I center the “square” over the fabric and the diagonal where I sew.

The first unit. Oh! I forgot to reverse the design, so my stars will look like they turn the other way around… I’ll leave it that way.
The 3 units are pieced.
Join the 3 columns together, and then to the left of the background fabric. The "Q" is not fused yet, I just wanted to see the colors...

Hello to all "half-size fan"! I'm currently vacationing in Florida, away from my sewing machine...I'll be able to work on Month 8 only next week-end, and post measurements then.
In the meantime, I can't stay away from fabrics and threads for too long, so have a look at my "travel kit"
Talk to you soon!

What a wonderful kit, Andree! I would like to see pictures of your hexi quilt, too. Looks like you have some Kaffe fabric in there. After my current hexi project (or maybe before I finish since I tend to jump around between projects) I have a Kaffe English paper-pieced octagon/square quilt in my head. Should I call it an "octi" quilt????

Maybe you just created a new trend! "Octi" quilt! What a fun Idea!
My travel kit does not show all the paper pieces I ordered (from paperpiece.com) I do have 1" octogone, pentagone, squares, triangles, honeycomb... I would like to make a quilt with various shapes... I'll work on this and show you pictures when I have my design.
