One thing I learned when doing Shakespeare In The Park is "the value of value".
I replaced several blocks because there was not enough contrast in the value and the Snail's Trail design got lost.
I finally divided all of my chosen fabrics into 3 piles; Light value, medium value and dark value.
I eliminated the entire medium value pile and the quilt was much more dynamic because of that decision!

Margo,
Your quilt is stunning, and your son is one very lucky recipient! Now that he's in Myrtle Beach, you'll need to make plans to come for the Myrtle Beach Quilt Party next January! Loads of fun (although you are such an accomplished quilter that you should should probably be TEACHING the classes instead of taking them  )! http://www.mbqp.net/

I am currently finishing a quilt for my youngest daughter's best friend and then it is back to finishing our guild's mystery quilt. I have binding to put on several placemats and flowers and vines and leaves to be appliqued to my HST exchange top. OH! and several socks to knit.....DH would like a pair for each day of the week now that he is retired.
Another goal of mine is to upload pictures of some of my quilts to my profile page and get a new avatar.

Teresa - congratulations on your ribbon and on impressing your mom, I guess now you have to make another quilt to replace that one for your bed.
Margo - love your Myrtle Bay quilt, good to see that the remodel didn't slow you down too much  Shakespere in the Park is very interesting too especially the lessons on value that you threw in.

Mine was done with a couple of different blocks. There was a log cabin block (the way it was sewn together I actually call it a courthouse step block, but the color placement is different) and a greek key block. There were 2 different greek key block lay out, one with dark fabric on the outside and one with light fabric on the outside. The book had good directions and pictures to show you what order to sew the pieces on for each block and the color placement. I actually think the quilt looks more complicated than it is, just a lot of pieces so it's not one I did quickly. I did a couple of blocks and then after I got the hang of it started chain piecing the blocks. This was actually my 3rd quilt from this pattern. I did 2 queen size ones and a lap size one, and still don't have one on my bed.Originally posted by suehenyonI absolutely love the Shakespeare in the Park quilt & actually just found the book at a good price. Question for Teresa and Margo, for these quilts, are you going block by block or do you have to follow directions like in a quilt magazine.
