Marilyn - I am using silk thread, I have acquired a load of old Pearsalls threads that I would rate as button hole thread weight. I do have some new silk threads that are approximately the same weight as six stranded embroidery thread (I think you refer to this as floss) I have tried a couple using fine cotton perle and although it works, I don't like it just as much as the silk. (the 8 hr one was a machine weight thread)
Terrie - no I haven't stopped quilting, but since I do nearly all my piecing & quilting by machine in the sewing room & my DH would like to have my company for at least part of the evening in the lounge, it is something I can easily do listening to the 'moving wallpaper' (which is his choice of programme anyway  ). Anyway who has time on their hands when they have a stack of phds that need working on  I mean to say, who knows what mischief I would get up to if I did have time on my hands   (actually I work better with short deadlines......which reminds me!....gotta go!)

Rosemary you do make me laugh. I wonder which 'moving wallpaper' programmes your DH likes to watch - I would lay money on it that some are the same as mine. Somedays when I am in my sewing room if the doors are left open (which is most of the time ) I might have DH watching endless news channels in one room and the kids watching something dreadful like The X Factor or Big Brother in the other. A different sound for each ear.

Not necessarily - Ice Road Truckers, Big Game Fishing, anything to do with the Military & blowing things up, Mythbusters(blowing things up), CSI & NCIS re-runs, then the news & weather. Failing that, a Ray Mears video/dvd.
