I don't know if that's the book she used, but you might want to take a look at Mary Kay's Agape Bella quilt that she made for her brother!

BJ I am really looking forward to seeing what you do, it sounds so interesting. I keep changing my mind about what I would like to do  There is a beautiful rosette on the floor of Christchurch Cathedral here in Dublin that I am quite interested in doing - but I am not sure I have the skill to do it. This is what it looks like. The characters are pilgrims. Christchurch was on one of the European pilgrim routes in the 1500s.Then there is the quays in Waterford which I am also thinking of. It's really hard to make a decision. At the moment I am veering towards the quays - only because I don't think I could figure out how to do all that curved piecing in the tiled circle. This is where my own limitations conflict with my artistic aspirations. :?

Margo thanks for the link. Mary Kay's quilt is incredible. But I could never do anything as neat as that!
BJ, what I had been thinking of doing was making a sort of stamp to get the images onto the fabric. They are funny looking pilgrims - they look more like men in WW1 army hats. I will think about it some more. Circles are not one of my strengths either. It might begin to feel like torture, but we will see.

Rita..don't sell yourself short ! I'm bettin' you can do circles just fine !...check out Alex's demo
of Dale Flemings' 6 Minute circle in show # 309. It makes it pretty easy...and then there is Sharon
Shambers' Piece-le-que. And then Ruth McDowell method will set in all kind of shapes ! And that's
for starters ! Forge on !!

Well Margo the only circle I have ever done (apart from some drunkards path and fan blocks years ago) was month one of Sedona Star. I didn't find that too easy and it was far from perfect when it was finished. But I guess I could try again. Marilyn, I will have a look at the show with Dale Fleming again and the other two you mentioned. Thanks for the suggestions and encouragement everybody.

Hi Rita---Glad you liked my quilt. Your idea of the Rosette is wonderful but you wouldn't have to piece it. You could fuse the sections and inner designs using your favorite fusible and then satin stitch or other edge stitch. I sometimes use PhotoShop (using filter Find Edges) to get a basic shape from a photo and then print it out. Or you could totally paint a whole cloth quilt within quilting lines. You can probably tell I am not an expert at traditional quilting methods, so I tend toward more surface design solutions. I also looked up the Quays and that area would make a fabulous art quilt. Good luck---I will be looking for your entry. Marlene

Marlene, I just looked at your Puget Sound Reflections quilt and just love how you were able to pull together great colors for the boats that really showed movement and then pulled them down into the reflection of the water. Absolutely beautiful. Thanks for mentioning PhotoShop--I have never used it but my copy arrived in the mail todayand I expect to be learning how to make good use of it with my quilt ideas.
