So excited to see some of you are still planning on taking up the challenge even if it ends up being for a different time. My father was a civil engineer and worked on many wonderful projects. He always wanted to build his own house but never got it done before he died, so I'm quilting a blueprint of a house and dedicating this quilt to his memory. I hope it comes out ok. I got exactly the right color blue fabric.
Should be challenging though.

Hi everyone---Well if you woondering if entering contests/shows ever pays off-----it does. I got into the Fairfield Processing Calelndar for 2013. They give it out to their customers but was a competition to make an art quilt for their American Spirit Batting. Copy this link to your browser this link to see mine and all other11 winners.
http://www.fairfieldworld.com/galler...lery&id=18 My quilt is the Boat/Harbor one. Click to enlarge.
The Fairfield blog is also interesting:
https://www.facebook.com/FairfieldWorld
They may do another calendar for next year too. I won batting, $50 gift certificate for my fabric store, 10 calendars, 4 cups with my quilt on it etc. FUN
The quilts themselves were on display at Houston Quilt Market, and will be in a special exhibit at the Road to California quilt show this month and then at the Portland Ore Quilt Market in May.
ALSO I did a quilt for the Road to California that mentioned in a previous comment and I got in! Judging for the prizes is soon. If you are in California and go to the show, say hi to my quilt. This is really thrilling since both my sister and I are really new to entering major shows. I hope you all give it a try if you have never done so.
I know there are some very famous memners on the Quilt Show site that would say the same thing. Happy New Year to all.

I have a quilt in the Road to California also this year as do several other TQS members. I have learned something every time I've entered a quilt. Usually you get judges comments back about your quilts, and often I have gotten comments from friends who see them but it's wonderful to have people see them. But be assured you don't have to enter into a contest to enjoy this challenge.

I haven't forgotten that I want to do this challenge. I just am not sure my idea fits the criteria and I am really trying to be good and finish piecing the two quilts I have going from this year. Once they are pieced I can start the new one. I also want to try to do two landscape quilts in the new year. Daughter has requested one and the other is from a picture a friend took. Maybe I should consider quilting the three quilt tops I will have when I finish the piecing for this years quilts.

Ritzy, I am pretty sure your idea fits the criteria...it's pretty loose. Looking forward to seeing your quilts.

ops: Loved the animal quilts in the other show.
Heather, yours is going to be stunning and BJ I love the idea of you building your dad's house, a great tribute to him. How are you thinking of interpreting it?
Just off to look at those links

It's mostly quilting/thread work. I'm going to use white threads of various weights similar to how I did my "Perspective in Threads"to "draw" the "plans". The "plans" will surround a picture of the house in appropriate colors. It sounds like fun to me.Originally posted by twigletThanks Rita, I watched it but fell asleep for most of it...hic

BJ, I haven't forgotten, either, but I decided to wait until January to start (rough design in my head, not yet on paper) in hopes of getting things done for Christmas—only some of which I actually did get done.
Anyhow, my goal for the end of this year is to finish my niece's graduation quilt (graduation was June 2012, sigh), and the 6 AAQI quilts I have in the works. Then I can think about this challenge.
Heather, your design is lovely!! I'll be eager to see it in fabric! And BJ, what a great idea. I'll be eager to follow along as you experiment with the various threads! This is going to be a fun challenge! I'm really looking forward to getting started!

BJ -- your idea to do the blueprint for your dad/in his memory/honor is just amazing!! wow. Can't wait to see that; I hope you'll share pictures all along the way. What a priceless treasure that will be for your family!

Marlene your quilt is beautiful. I love the movement on the water, so clever and a well deserved winner.
BJ I am really looking forward to seeing what you do, it sounds so interesting. I keep changing my mind about what I would like to do  There is a beautiful rosette on the floor of Christchurch Cathedral here in Dublin that I am quite interested in doing - but I am not sure I have the skill to do it. This is what it looks like. The characters are pilgrims. Christchurch was on one of the European pilgrim routes in the 1500s.Then there is the quays in Waterford which I am also thinking of. It's really hard to make a decision. At the moment I am veering towards the quays - only because I don't think I could figure out how to do all that curved piecing in the tiled circle. This is where my own limitations conflict with my artistic aspirations. :?

Rita, that's really pretty! Have you ever seen a book by Norah McMeeking called Bella Bella Quilts? She's based quilt designs on Italian mosiacs (mostly floors, I think). Anyhow, even though the designs differ from your photo, something like that might help you be able to draft your own pattern.
