Lotti, so nice of you to ask. I'm doing great. Had second surgery on Wednesday this week and Thursday morning the surgeon cleared me to drive my car again with two "new" eyes. So far, I see distance beautifully but it's a bit of a curse: I now see EVERY SPECK OF DUST ON THE FLOOR AND FURNITURE! Will need reading glasses for up close and will wait the one obligatory month until eyes stabilize for a prescription set of reading glasses. I will touch neither the rotary cutter nor the sewing machine until that time: with my luck, I'd slice a finger or sew over it!
hmy: In the meantime, I'm knitting up a storm with my cheater glasses!
Ritzy, I hope Loren is doing much better this morning and that you managed to get some rest last night knowing that he was in good hands. I wish Loren a speedy recovery --my thoughts are with you both and hope you feel the warmth of this wish as it flows your way.

Renata,
Can you see colors more vividly now? When I had cataract surgery I was surprised at how much more colorful the world was. I hope you are enjoying the autumn colors.
One tip. Make sure to wear UV sunglasses outside and to get reading glasses with UV protection. You lose some of that natural UV protection when your natural lens is removed in cataract surgery.
Also, I have an inexpensive pair of reading sunglasses that are a big help to me when driving. They are sunglasses with a little reading close-up area near the bottom of the sunglass lens that enable me to read the small numbers on the speedometer, etc while driving. I saw a display of them at Sam's last week in Sam's reading glasses section.
When I got prescription computer/reading glasses after my cataract surgery, I got progressive lenses with 2 focal points. I had mine made to focus on the bottom of the lens where I would normally read at my desk (which is also the distance I need to see at my sewing machine, so I can see exactly where my machine needle hits the fabric) and to focus in the middle of the lens for computer work. The top of the lens is clear with no magnification. This lets me sew and watch television at the same time. I measured those distances at home, and then went in to the eyeglass place and told them exactly what I wanted.
Happy seeing and sewing,
Judith

Judith, initially the more saturated jewel colors did look more vivid but I think my brain has adapted and now there is more balance in how I see saturated colors. I did notice it mostly in purples, cobalt blues and greens. I am enjoying it all and taking everything in without glasses and it is very nice. Thanks for all the tips and level of detail--I will keep your comments in mind. I did have progressive lenses before the surgery and my temptation is to go back to them in exactly the same manner you described. Thanks for all your good advice!

Thank you for the prayers. With the hospital being 20 miles away (one way); I will definitely need rest--it is extremely hard to just sit. I sat for 4 hours with him today and found it exhausting. I took some knitting with me but that didn't seem to help.
When the doctor asked him how he was feeling today he said he "feels like crap", then the dr. asked if he was any better and he said no.
So, that is where we are right now. They expect him to be in the hospital for at least a week.
Hugs to you my prayer warriors.

Lynn--started out as the flu on Wednesday, by Thursday he was dehydrated because when I tried to bring him drinks and food--he would no co-operate. Friday to hospital and diagnosis of pneumonia in the left lower lobe. Still has all the upper respiratory going on too. Coughing, getting the junk out, coughing, nebulizer treatment, coughing,...you get the idea.

Praying for you and Loren. Hopefully he will be better soon and your traveling will be safe. Last year when I was in the hospital with pneumonia my husband would only come for and hour or so and would promptly get in the hospital bed and take a nap while I sat in the chair next to the bed!!
