My name is really Debbie. I am loving this project. I was having trouble with fraying so I put a thin piece of batting on the back and folded it over the front edge and basted it down. Now I can handle it more easily. I have added some 5 weight DMC perle cotton thread also.

I’ve never been called a super hero before, Helen. Can I add that to my resume?

I’m attaching some photos as you requested as well as some Pennies I did over the summer. Hope this gives someone inspiration. As for my piece, my silk arrived from Sue Spargo, but I haven’t had time to work with it. Too busy finishing up Christmas gifts!

Thank you Carole!!! You always inspire me. Love your dark colored pennies. Your stitching is keeping me going. I am a want to be
hand stitcher. I have a feeling of trepidation every time I pick up my needle. Don't know why. Maybe because I feel so comfortable
doing applique and edge stitching by machine. But I am not giving up. I just want to be able to use it to embellish what I do by machine. HelenW

Debbie (kemopuzzle) I like how you solved your fraying problem. Also like the narrow pink circles as accents on the background.
Your stitching does not look like a beginner. I have DMC 5 floss. Which stitches did you use it on? Your stitchinglooks great. HelenW

I've done a lot of stitching on Sue Spargo designs and on Ariana Zurcher designs. I used the #5 DMC on quite a few different stitches. It gives the circles more dimension to vary the thread weights.

Did a little chain stitch, back stitch, stem stitch and wrapping stitches. Looking forward to next class today.
Still getting tangles despite using Thread Magic and shorter threads. Would like to know if there is a good way
to undo the knots that just come out of no where. HelenW

Other possible strategies....In my experience, after separating out a thread, it is very twisted. I massage it straight a few times before it goes onto the needle. Also the first time the unknotted thread tries to catch somewhere, I trim it just to clean the end up.

I do a lot of embroidery but have never worked on silk before, so this is exciting. I couldn’t find the fabric prep in the UK so used fine iron on vilene. I went round the edge of the piece with the overlocker to prevent fraying as I work. I have done several Sue Spargo patterns and have her books and am looking forward to lots of stitching.

Excited to be here! Still waiting for my silk (it's shipped just held up in the delivery process). So I found these old hand-dyed button covers and started adding stitches. I have a whole bag of these and they are perfect for practice! :-)

Being new to embroidery, I didn't realize I should have two threads. Oops.

Besides the neutral fabric kit I added things I had, white linen, champagne silk charmeuse, white radiance, and a tan wool. I'm happy with they way it turned out thought it was a bear to piece with the different fabrics. Now to get some time to work on the embroidery. Alex, thanks for the inspiration! Finally got the background finished. The stitching is challenging my skills.

If denim is used does it have to be stabilized.

I started working this afternoon… all cozy with a hot cup of chai latte and sitting under my Christmas throw with my lap app and embroidery supplies around me. Aaaaaaahhhhhhh…. So delightful! I got these 3 circles completed. I used the outline stitch, the chain stitch, and did a double daisy stitch on the smallest circle. I love it!

My Lazy Daisy and Colonial knot stitches. Thank you Carole B for saying you like it better than a french knot. I found easy is to learn.

Your butterfly is beautiful. Now I am off to see difference between French Knot (which I am familiar with) and a Colonial Knot.
