SueGee, Your got it right. It looks great with just the multicolored narrow border and an outside border that is not wide like the original pattern. Good Job. HelenW

I finally got all my flowers, leaves, and dots done! I had never done finished edge applique, and decided this was the time!! I bought Rosa Rojas' Appliquick Rods awhile back, but never got up my nerve to try them. I started to try finished edge on the Birdhouse Quilt, but went back to raw edge. So, I turned on some old episodes of "The Waltons" and got to work! Alex was right, it really was relaxing and a lot of FUN!!! Thanks again Alex, for yet another quilter's tool in my quilter's toolbelt.

Applique is just pinned on but it’s readyto fuse everything down. I will then do a machine blanket stitch in black.

After a nice (long overdue) post vaccine visit with my brother at the Gulf coast, I am back to this project. My newly purchased Applipops made the flower centers so easy! Now to turn the petals and leaves. As Alex said, no rush, I am enjoying the process!

Roberta, Very creative to put the big flowers in the corners. Thinking of contrast with the flower colors and the spools colors, I think
I might have put a white block in the 3 corners and made the flowers go more into the white block and trail the vines into the flowers and not go around the corners. I am always just trying to
think of ways to adapt peoples great ideas. Great way to make it your own. HelenW

So, I looked at all those petals and thought "Aghhhh".
Decided to cut out a flower shape on my scan n Cut and painted them using Derwent Inktense paints.
I did use the leaves template and did raw edge applique.

I used the accordion method taught by Dee to make the HST for the border. This will be a community service quilt. It was fun to make! Thanks for teaching us so many skills.

Here's my oops from last night. I sewed the flower and leaf overlapping the outer edge instead of the inner edge (the border isn't sewn on. Now do I move it or let it extend past the binding? If I leave it, I will back it so there aren' any raw edges on the back.

Gayle B, What would happen if you just rotated it 180 degrees so it was on the inside. Would your vine not work in the corners?
I intentionally overlapped Dragonfly wings on a wall hanging and it turned out great. I used flower wire on the inside of the backing
of black fabric so they would not droop over time due to gravity. HelenW

Helen W, I have the bottom and right side sewn together so I can applique around the corner. I did the vine first, and am now adding the flowers. Now, if I leave it hanging off the bottom, should I have something hanging off the right side, so it seems less oops and more intentional?

ID:	885665 Gayle B, I am trying a different way to post a picture of a wall hanging with applique hanging off the edge. Will see if this
                      works. HelenW

Gayle B, I think it will look good either way. I personally would probably put one over the edge on the right, left and bottom. They always say odd numbers are best visually. So it could be 1 or 3. Much to my surprise my picture loaded when I just try again.See previous post to this one.
Do you have the bottom and right side attached to the quilt top already, It is rather hard, or should I say fiddly, to put the border on if you don't do sides first, and then top and bottom. You have a 90 angle to deal with. I would have done the vines and run them
on just one border and started a almost matching spot on the other border for alignment. Then when the borders are all on put a flower leaf or circle over the place where the break in the vine is located. Just leaving the applique that needs to make it look like continuous flow until the whole top is on, then attach those pieces. HelenW

I decided to add cats, since my cats find it necessary to supervise any quilting I do. For the cats, I did a technique I call finished fusible. I used Steam-A-Seam and folded the edges over to the fusible.

And the quilt top is done! Some of my leaves and flowers will extend past the binding. I made it a design decison, instead of it being an oops.
