I'm thinking I'd like to use 30s fabrics for this project. I just laid out a few strips to see how they look. Do you think they're bright enough? Will this look good?

I love your 30s fabrics. The blocks are beautiful and the fabric will make an amazing border.

I have been excited about participating in this sew along ever since it was hanging on Alex's wall! I got a late start, but an caught up with my 20 squares and turning the edges of the half moons. I am using what I have in my stash: solid and ombre scraps, and a two yard cut of tiny white daisies on yellow. Thanks for another lovely quilt. I usually watch the broadcast on the replay.

Today I managed to cut and press all the 40 half moons and rip the paper from my spools...looking forward to the next step!

Yes, the top is finished and about to be basted for my custom quilting. I used the Alison Glass plaids (except for the grays) and inserted some Kaffe plaids and strips as well. It is a striking quilt; so thank you for sharing!

Half moons in position and a close up of machine appliqué. Usually do everything by hand but thought this a great opportunity to try doing it by machine. (Don’t know why picture turns out sideways.)

I started out using white thread for the applique, but switched to monofilament. The pic has two blocks of each. You have to look pretty close to tell which thread I used.

Got my blades done! Ready for the next step. This has been so much fun, and I've inspired a friend to use her ties to make something too.

This is very stricking! I wonder if you'll choose some masculine style border. Any thoughts?

I'd like some type of masculine border, but not sure what. What type of masculine border were you thinking about?

I have been thankful for Alex's classes and here is my rendition of the spinning spools...I didn't want a stark white background so used a grunge fabric that I had enough of for the moons. Thank you for the fun and inspiration. Alex when you make a goofy comment about being a trained professionial...I grin...and am so happy that you are sharing this time with me/us!

It might be too big--re-size smaller and try again.

I finished stitching the spinners, using monofilament thread, the blind hem stitch adjusted to around 1/1, and the Bernina clear applique foot. I squared up again to 8 1/2", as I only had a few that didn't go off the edge a bit because of matching the 1/4 inch corner. I may move a few colors around yet.
