What qualifies as a quilt for posting?

I posted what I believe to be a quilt in my profile. It is my originally designed pieced and appliqued banner art (wall art?) that is approximately 40 x 60 inches, though I don't have the exact size. It has a pieced front, an inner heavy-duty interfacing, and a backing. Even several points throughout the banner have been stitched, to provide it with stability. Is this a quilt? If not, I will move it out of the quilt gallary.

I'm in the process of posting some quilts(encouraged by the Post A Quilt campaign.) I'm trying to find the rules for the quilts that can be posted, without luck. Can anyone help me out?

Specifically, can a small wallhanging that ends up as a pillow qualify as a quilt? Secondly, would a basted quilt sandwich qualify to be posted as a quilt or only as an Other Photos posting. I'm trying to get my 6 quilts posted--I think that was one of the requirements for the contest. Those rules I can't find would probably tell me, wouldn't they!?

        Help, please

          Frances,
IMHO those all qualify. In the spirit of "it's easier to ask for forgiveness than permission", I'd post anything that seems to you like a "quilt". If someone objects, then you can remove it.
After all, if we are serious quilters  , then whatever "work" we consider worthy of us must be a quilt, right?

If you visit the home page, there is a "box" on the right where it says something like "Win a Ricky Tims Quilt." Click that box for all the rules. Here's a bit of what it says there....

"Quilts can be antiques, family heirlooms, and/or your personal quilts. Finished quilt tops (but still not quilted) are acceptable."

            Good luck!

              Hello, my name is Donna,

I just joined as a Star member today, after close to six months of lurking on the site, thanks to a quilter friend who gave me a six-month membership for Christmas.

She loaned me the first two seasons of the show on DVD after we ran into each other at our local quilt show and I mentioned that I'd discovered the site in search of Alex Anderson's current endeavors after rewatching some "Simply Quilts" episodes I'd recorded and watching some of the shows over on the HGTV website.

I made Christmas cards this year using fabric, a rubber stamp, paper and ink. Some of them have a nine patch I cut out from a fat quarter and glued. Would I be able to post one over here somewhere, even though I didn't do a single stitch?

I'm very much a newbie in the sewing department, although I can now thread my sewing machine, thread a bobbin, and hit the "start" button. Sometimes the thread breaks before I really get started, but when the machine gets going, something wonderful happens.

Hi Donna and welcome to the forum!

There is a section in your My Profile (up on the top,m pink bar on the right in My Account) called My Personal Photos where anything goes. That would be an ideal place to post your first fabric creations.

This is certainly the best place to be if you're taking up the hobby of working with fabrics, the knowledge base of the members is boundless so get stuck in! And remember it's only stupid people who don't ask questions!

                Good luck!

I hadn't realised that there were 'rules' for what we can put in our profile gallery. If I consider it to be quilt related it goes in. Maggi

I don't think there are any rules. Post on your profile or in "show and tell". There is a section there called "what I am working on". Or you could do a blog and let us see what you are doing.

Thank you, Ritzy and Amoret, for the suggestions about uploading my projects, and the encouragement about asking questions. : )

I'm glad to hear "there are no rules," Maggi. Sounds like a place I want to learn in. LOL

I've uploaded three of my fabric projects to my account, looking forward to seeing your projects, too.
