I entirely echo this Lady's comments. Navigation around the site is a bit of an adventure to say the least - its a bit of a magical mystery tour. This only thing I prefer from this new site is the search box facility for previous episodes/techniques. I know things need freshening up from time to time - but this new site doesn't give the satisfaction of the old one. I am sorry - I know someone has put a lot of work into this but there's something to be said for 'if it ain't broke - don't fix it'. I remember reading somewhere that the old technology for the previous site was creaking under the strain - but I'm sorry - I don't like this new site.

    Disappointed.....................

Please explain favorites - do you mean on the photos or something else? I can add it to the wishlist for webmaster Bob.

      thanks,

I posted a key to the topic icons on another thread, but can't remember which one. I'll have to add it to the Website Guide I'm going to create. Here it is again:

Hmmm... now I see that the big red X is supposed to mean that the topic is closed, but it is not closed. I guess it is not linked to the actual button that locks a topic.

The icons do draw attention to some topics and makes them easier to find. But don't get carried away with giving every topic an icon. :P

            Kathy,
To me it means putting something like the icon list or some info into a favourite spot "it was a heart in the old system" so that we could easily find it.
Hope this makes sense to anyone reading this.

Favorites on the old site allowed us to bookmark a topic or such in order to refer to it later. More precise
than the star icon on the forum of this site. Much missed for sure....and some really missing the things
bookmarked on the old site. For instance..6months from now I might not remember where to find the
reference to your sticky mat...if marked..easy peasy !

Is that what the "favorite" tab at the bottom of each page does? If it is, how do you locate it later (in my case, when I've forgotten which forum topic it was on!!?)

You can find it by clicking on the tab at the top of the forum that says "My Topics". The favorites will be marked with a yellow star after the topic title.

                          Here's a written definition:
The icon that looks like a blank sheet of paper is the default.

Exclamation Point - indicates that the topic is important (e.g. an official announcement to the community or the presence of a major problem that affects a service or product).

Question Mark - indicates that the topic is a question to the community.

Light Bulb - an idea, suggestion or request for a new feature.

Heart - can mean whatever you like it to mean. It is usually interpreted to be a "gift" from the topic creator to the rest of the
community. It could, for example, represent gratitude or admiration for the work of others in the community.

Red & Blue Arrows - indicates that the topic was created by merging it with other topics on the forum. This is often used to show that other forum users have similar issues but that the forum moderator considered that it would be more appropriate to discuss these several issues in the same topic.

Red X - Usually means that the question or problem discussed in the topic was not able to be resolved and that the subject is closed.

Green Check Mark - Usually means that the question or problem discussed in the topic was resolved to the satisfaction of the topic owner and that the subject is closed.

Red Arrow pointing Right - Indicates that a topic was moved to a different category.

                          Trash Can - Deleted topic.

Red Push Pin - "Sticky" topic. Only forum moderators can set this topic attribute. Sticky topics appear in a category index before other topics.

Lock - Locked topic. Only forum moderators can set this topic attribute. When a topic is locked no further posts can be made except for messages posted by forum moderators.

I am the moderator and of course John and Bob can change things, but they don't read much in the forum so I pass on info to them. I think anyone can add an icon when they start a topic - it's hard for me to distinguish what others can't do or see since as a moderator I have special access.

Thanks Kathy. I was wondering why and in what kinds of situations some of them would be used. I remember a time when one of our members was being stalked online. Someone actually became a member to follow what she was writing here. John and Bob got rid of that guy. So I guess there are crazy situations you've got to be ready for. Creepy. Right?
