Profiles set to private or are they?
I did a google search using my tqs "name" which happens to also be the screen name that I use on other sites. My profile on tqs is set as private. I was surprised when up popped links to two quilts that I had posted in the public quilt gallery along with thumbnails of all the quilts I have posted privately.
Also, my profile avatar popped up although my profile is private. I had set my avatar as a picture of self for a more personal response in the forums. After today, it's back to a quilt.
So, my question is exactly what is kept private when posted on tqs?

I think this is a really good question for the the TQS personel! Please send them a note through the CONTACT link (on the purple bar) and let us know what they tell you!Originally posted by AzBornDesignsI did a google search using my tqs "name" which happens to also be the screen name that I use on other sites. I would say unless a site is strickly private...you will find information floating around.
I was not so excited to post pictures of myself and very much personal information on the message board. I think folks were little taken back when I said I wouldn't post a picture of myself. I realize people like to put names to faces. Perhaps I am more of a private person.

I googled my screen name and got one hit which was when my Dinosaur quilt was featured in the newsletter. I clicked on the link that was in the newsletter article and it went to TQS but said the information was private and I needed to login. I made sure I was logged out before I googled. I don't expect the information in the newsletter to be private to the site because it is such a great advertsing tool. I don't have a problem with my picture being attached to my screen name here but I certainingly understand when people don't.
It's just a thought but you can set blogs to be visible to non-members and you can do the same for quilts in the gallery. I wonder if this is when you see the information when you google. I don't have either of these set for non-members to see.

Well, I'll be darned! I'm only one of many QuilterLynns too! And I thought I was original. My blogger pic on an old site I don't contribute to comes up but not my personal blog.
And a comment I made to Sue Garman when I saw her NEW BOM.
Small world, - maybe unsafe for those of us who are too trusting and too open.
Thanks to Bob the Web Guy for looking at it (and Capt. John) and trying to protect us from ourselves!

I'm glad they are checking. I just googled my screenname while logged in to TQS and while not logged on and was shocked to see my picture and profile and comments show up both ways. When I google just my name there was nothing on the first 15 pages anyway. (There were 872,000 enteries so I couldn't look at all of them). I guess at least other people wouldn't know my screen name to check it that way.

I googled my screen name and nothing came up through the Google search engine but it did come up through the Yahoo search engine. It came up once for my BOM being in the newsletter and once from a comment on the 2009 BOM. I'm OK with the Newsletter but I'm not sure how I feel about anyone being able to read our comments when they were meant for members of TQS
