    linens

This week's show with Cindy Needham is very timely for me. Mom passed in January & just today I found her never-used wedding gifts, 1953 linens & napkins. I wanted to empty the window seat so I could sort stuff on top of it. Also a beautiful tatted(?) apron, for entertaining, not for cooking! Thank you Cindy for your inspiring linen quilts!

Sorry to hear about your mother, Carol! You'll have fun playing with the linens and it'll make you feel closer to her while you work on them. I've been working on some of my mom's linens.

The linens are beautiful, Carol! The apron isn't tatting. Maybe it's Lefkara lace? I found some pictures online that look kind of like your apron.

A friend on-line said filet crochet. I can't figure out the letter on the blue cloth holding the linens. Is it a 'G'? Family surname s/b 'B', or paternal side would be 'V', mom's maiden name would be 'P'. So I'm stumped on this one.

I agree with your friend that the apron is filet crochet, I've seen that type of lace on church linens & my Gran made some too.

So did mine - valances around the beds etc. Sadly none of them have survived. I think it's a letter G Carrie.

I think it's more a P but folded wrong. I loved the show as well, it was fascinating seeing how she used her templates and filled the spaces so beautifully. Just like Nancy

I agree re filet crochet. One of my aunts used to make filet crochet table clothes, unfortunately none have survived.

OMG A "P" makes so much more sense! Mom's maiden name and her mother's maiden name are both P. I just wasn't looking at it right side up. Thank you!

If I do use any of these for quilting, it will be awhile. Maybe I'll see some examples Saturday at the Int'l Quilt Festival in Chicago. Sooo looking forward to some 'me' time.

Definitely filet crochet! It is still done in Brazil.

Lovely linens Carrie, I think the initials are C.F.....or G.F. entwined. If it was a P. it's the wrong way round

Anne, Look at it again where its unfolded. I think it's a P.

If you google 'old English alphabet letters images' you will be able to see that it's a G.
