THANKS TO JOHN - CAPTIONING! YAY!!!

    Please spread the word.......

The Quilt Show has FINALLY rolled out closed captioning for the deaf/HOH. I've waited for years for John Anderson to roll this out, and he finally has.

I shall finally be signing up for my membership now that I know I can really use the future shows and understand them!

Without captioning, I have no way of really understanding the content, and what a great thing!

I know folks whose native language is not English but are conversant. However, captioning helps them quite a bit because often they read English better than they can keep up with the spoken word (especially regional accents and fast-speaking). Sometimes combining the two helps immensely! This will help many in both the non-hearing and hearing communities!

Sounds good how do you access it. Is it the sane sub titles?

it will only be on the current show and future shows, not past shows.

Thank you John and TQS a few months ago I found out I had lost some hearing and I return next month to be tested again to see how fast it is getting worse, just joking my friend said will TQS have closed captioning. That would have been heartbreaking if I lost the videos, Here's hoping it is very slow anyway. Joan

Thank you for the encouragement. Jeannie in our office is doing the captioning. (I think she just wanted the new Apple iMac it took to get it going!) We just figured out how to make the "default" to not show the captioning unless you want it. So you do now have to click the cc icon to choose it. We are also puzzled as to why it is not working on the iPad (and probably all tablets). We hope to have that solved soon.

I got the captioning on the latest show without doing anything but playing it. That said I have taken to not watching the faces too closely because the sound is out of sync with the pictures, and that is frustrating.

I, for one, do not really care about those issues - and most who are hearing impaired or deaf do not care - just to get any captioning at all is a blessing. I have no idea if you are commenting on the captioning synchronization issues, or actual sound (not having anything to do with captioning at all) issues. I've told John that I would be unable to comment on captioning synchronization issues, because I have no way of matching up the captioning that is being displayed, and the actual speech that is going on. The fact that you can catch synchronization problems tells me perhaps you don't need the captioning?
