Lois, this is my third trip to Paducah, and I have yet to take a class here. Not that they don't have wonderful teachers...in fact they have a whole galaxy of stars. But there is just SO MUCH to see here!!! 400+ quilts, which of course must be studied in detail. (BTW, my friends avoid going to museums with me because I will read EVERY sign. ). Hundreds of vendors with great products, many of whom are doing interesting demos. The National Quilt Museum, with so many iconic quilts...the kind that give you goose bumps to see in person. Downtown Paducah with quaint and quirky shops. Paducah itself is a developing artists' colony for a variety of visual arts, and everyone rolls out the welcome mat for Quilt Week. I'm in heaven!Originally posted by loise98Connie, This is a very lovely way to see the Paducah Show. I would just love to get to that show sometime. Are you taking any classes? Great coverage!

At the Yeiser Art Center in downtown Paducah they currently have an exhibit called Fantastic Fibers 2013, which I stumbled into on Tuesday. I was stopped dead in my tracks by this incredible 3D piece by an artist I love, Salley Mavor.
Click the link to see "Birds of Beebe Woods".

The picture only hints at the greatness of this piece. Each bird's plumage, as well as much of the background, is brought to life with thousands (maybe millions?!) of detailed embroidery stitches.

The Yeiser Center also had an incredible, life-size needle felted wild hare by artist Sara Renzulli. The hare pictured in this gallery is similar to the one on display:

Caryl Bryer Fallert-Gentry snapped it up before I could buy it.

Maybe Paducah needs to be the 2014 field trip for the mug ruggers and lounge lizards!Originally posted by ReetzbobeetzWhat an amazing piece Connie. You are doing a better job of convincing me that I have to go to Paducah than the Kentucky tourist board.

Thanks for all the great pictures Connie! I've always wanted to go to Paducah. I LOVE your quilt and was surprised to see our Indian in your picture hanging next to yours! Glad you're having fun and congratulations on having your quilt hanging there.Lyndhurst, Ohio USA - East Side Suburb of Cleveland, Ohio

A field trip would be great, but didn't we have to make hotel reservations for Quilt Week a couple of years ago? :?
