    Susan Shie show 1013

Wow, I just watched show 1013 with Susan Shie. I've been aware of her quilts for many years, but had not known about how she works. this show was fantastic! She's an artist in paint and cloth- and a great teacher. I loved the free drawing she did with Ricky and Alex. She's an inspiration for how to live a life in art. Her advice is to let what's important to you come out in your work, however it comes out is good. Next time I see a photo of one of her works, I will look closely at the details and enjoy what I find there.

Thanks TQS for bringing us this show.

I'm waiting for a nice quiet spell this weekend to watch it. The preview has me intrigued and can't wait, think it will call for feet up and a glass of something.

Susan is a amazingly inspiring quilter/artist. She certainly journals on her quilts.

Yes I really enjoyed the show too! Her work is truly amazing - and even more so considering her sight. I am sure she makes the air-pen work look easy and I'll bet it's not. And her tarot cards looked amazing. This thread has reminded me that I wanted to look her up so I am off to do that now, thanks Kathy!

I just watched Susan's show. OMG! She's such a natural; sitting on the floor, so relaxed. I agree 100% with kathyst2-she lives her art. Just as writers are told to "write what you know", she says to journal and create what you know. Fantastic! I've been a fan of her work for quite a while-thank you ARJJ for letting us get to know her a little.

Wow quite a lady, am so impressed with what she does and how she had not let her sight get in the way of her passion. Very brave as well spending so much time working on a piece with the risk of an ink explosion over it  .

She just empties her mind onto her quilts, she exposes herself for all to see but that's the artist I guess.

I can see her family saying what's for tea tonight - oh we'll go and check on the quilt

It is true she is an awesome artist, etc. However, I am disappointed you allowed her to show President O. and mention him in the presentation -- more than once. No matter who is president and/or running to be president, please let the political world remain -- and keep the quilting/sewing world separate. Again, my appreciation for Susan Shie's talent remains strong, but there is no excuse for allowing her to swing anything related to politics by us as we viewed her show.

I don't agree with you Tizme. What we were being shown is Susan Shie and her work and what influences her work. Her work is not political, she is merely journalling what is going on in her world and what catches her attention. As in all art, the political world and the artists world are not separate. I believe that artists should be free to create whatever inspires them and to bear witness to what is happening in the world. If they did not we would not have the poetry of Anna Akmatova or Picasso's Guernica to name but two.

Well said, Rita....Tizme, I suggest you follow your own advice. Like it or not, it IS our world today.

It is not as if she was saying 'Vote for Obama', (was she?) she was just acknowledging the fact that he got into the job where the 'Buck Stops Here'.

I was in the audience when they taped Susan Shie's show. She comes across as such a kind and gentle soul. It was so relaxing and refreshing to watch her.
