Sharp eyes, Margo! That was part of a "scrap" that had been pieced. I might do some more on purpose with shorter strips. It is kind of addictive, what fun to see how they turn out! It also would be fun to do one with more order to it. Like my hand dyed fabrics that are still waiting for me to use them? I must have 60 yards of fabric that I've dyed and not used.

OK, Kathy! I dare ya!! Make it a project for 2012?

Here is a quilt that I made from fabrics that I hand dyed! They are 1/2" logs done with no paper piecing or foundations or special rulers. I did it about 8 years ago, and still love it! It's a family joke that my husband's favorite color is "bright shiny objects" so the name of this quilt is ALVIN'S FAVORITE COLOR!

Kathy, if you cut a 1 1/2" strip from every one of those 60 yards of hand dyed fabrics you would probably have enough to make a whole pineapple quilt, so you could still keep almost all of your 60 yards!

Margo, yet another wonderful quilt - but seriously, 1/2" logs  without paper piecing or foundations  Were you out of your mind at the time or something? Rita.

A word to the wise! If you do 1/2" log cabin strips without foundations, don't be surprised when you are merrily quilting away on your domestic machine stitching in the ditch with a walking foot if some of the blocks have an extra "log" or are missing the last one! OOPS!!

            Alvin has never noticed!

Beautiful quilt, Margo! I think it's my favorite color, too! I have a quilt top waiting quilting (so could be some time....) that is a log-cabin-like block in the same setting you used. Mine is caramel and jewel tone batiks. What a fun setting!

I may have to accept that dare! Your quilt is wonderful- I too love every color and yours has every color
                  Half inch logs?? Yikes!

I just re-read Gyleen's intro about cutting the strips-she mentions spending a few months cutting strips in front of the TV. Ha Ha! I guess that's about right. I've been cutting for 2 or 3 days and am about halfway to the 3 pounds of strips. AND, my pile of scraps is almost gone.

You and Alvin have a very happy Thanksgiving, you're lucky to have each other!
