Lorna, I just re-watched that part of the segment, and the foot is not mentioned. It looks to me like it's probably a free-motion foot, but she's not using a Bernina, so I'm not sure what she used.
When I do free motion sketching, I use Bernina's darning foot (#9) or the freehand embroidery foot (#24): http://www.berninausa.com/product_search-n25-sUS.html
I also use a single needle throat plate: http://www.berninausa.com/product_de...6-i84-sUS.html
and drop the feed dogs while I'm stitching.
Using the single needle throat plate lessens the sideways drag on the thread around the bobbin case that you get when you use the zig-zag throat plate when doing any kind of free motion stitching, whether it's thread sketching or free motion quilting.

Thanks, Margo. The 9 or the 24 make sense. I am pretty sure they are using the 830 that was set up there, plus with the back view I can see the plug in for the BSR and the dual feed hanging there. Just from that angle I wasn't sure about the foot. I think I bought the #9 just before moving. So when I get all my stuff I will have to try it out. Fun show!

Thanks Margo, this might be the reason I have problems using metallic thread with the BSR. It want to caught and break on something under the plate and then I have to use tweezers to get it out. I don't want to wreck the machine since it belongs to Kathy but I would really like to be able to use metallics when using the BSR. I will have to see if she has a single hole plate, if not I will have to buy one and try it.

Ritzy, I don't know what kind of troubleshooting you've done, but this is what Dr. Bob says about sewing with metallic threads:
