    Show 712 Priority Quilts

While watching this show, I was sewing and struggling to figure out what kind of small quilts to make as Christmas gifts for my two best quilting buddies. They don't "need" any little quilts but since I'm a quilter, making quilts as gifts is what I do, and they do the same for me. I was really stressing about what to do, time is running out and I "have" to do something for them.

Imagine my surprise when, at the end of the show, I figured it out: each of my friends had a parent with Alzheimer's/dementia. Instead of making quilts for my friends, I am going to make 2 Priority quilts in memory of their loved ones. I'll use the leftover pieces from several current projects that are laying on my work surface, making the surface "confused" and hard to work with. Whatever pieces go together, in random "order", will be the design.

I'll have these done in time for our get-together two weeks from now, so they can see "their" quilts. Then I'll register and send them to the Priority project.

What was a stressful "problem"--what to make for my friends--has become a challenge I am now looking forward to. Thanks to Ami, and TQS, for keeping this, and all the many quilt-related charity projects, in our focus.

I have never had time to make quilts for Ami's initiative, but several of these wonderful small pieces have somehow found their way into my little collection via the internet auctions. It's soooo easy to bid. The paying process is simple, and your chosen treasure arrives in no time at all. It's the perfect way to treat yourself - not just at Christmas, but all year round!

I just thought...... I should show you some of the amazing pieces I got from Ami's auctions:

I love the use of hand-dyed fabric and the 3-dimensional look of the grapes.

The beading and the photo transfer in the centre are exquisite.

I think this'll be as close as I'll ever get to owning cowboy boots.

              LORCHEN,

ABSOLUTELY LOVELY.... I made a small quilt for Ami's Auction ( a couple of years ago) I sent the links for the auction to my quilting friends and family members. I wanted them to bid on some of the quilts. I did not tell anyone I had made any of them. Several bought some of the quilts available during the auction. Can you imagine my surprise when I went to my cousin's home and MY LITTLE PRIORITY QUILT was hanging on a wall in her living room.... She did not realize she had bid on my quilt. She now has an autograph LADY RAGS work of art on her wall...

              I love the grape quilt...

There is now a section in our Show and Tell place for posting priority quilt photos. I got mine done the day after I watched the show and have posted this shot there. Now to get them registered with Ami's site--there are very specific instructions on how to do this. My friends will be pleased when they open "their" presents--I'll wrap each in a Priority envelope for mailing on to Ami's group.

I presented the quilts to my 2 friends last night. The quilts were packed in Priority envelopes and then wrapped in Christmas paper. In each there was a copy of my original post on this thread explaining how the quilts came to be. I also had the registration form inside along with the quilt so they could read the dedication to their mothers. There were tears all around so I guess I can safely say this was a successful gift idea,

                    Merry Christmas to all!
