Thanks for the personal response, Christine.
It's a nice class even when you are not really participating. I love your blocks, Renata. That was a really good lesson and learned now. I will sure follow again next week.

Oh Terrie, I was so impressed that the recipe didn't call for butter; the sconces sounded soOriginally posted by crocus999Sorry, Pat. I'm the dense one, not you. It's 4 Tablespoons Butter. I have edited the recipe. A few other tweaks. The right recipe now.
ops:
healthy! But alas, butter is the key ingredient in so many yummy eats.

Renata is responsible for the condition of my house :') I tuned up EQ to play. In one quilt, the stars look backlit to me, in the other, all I see is yellow and it is distracting, so position of the block seems important, too.
Christine, what brand is the ombre fabric? I'm going to see if I can find some .jpg's of the ombres to add to EQ.

Way to go, Margo and Susan! To answer your question about the ombres, I carry bolts from two collections, Gelato from E.E. Schenck, and Grandations II from Benartex. The Gelato ombres are what I used in my quilt "Lustrous Squares," and they are brighter. The Gradations ombres are more organic, less intense.
You can sure see what a difference plain, alternate squares make; they really "air out" the pieced blocks. Making the plain squares the same color and/or value as the background triangles in the pieced blocks make the blocks appear to float (as in the example with the yellow plain squares). I tell my students to consider using plain squares to set off the pieced ones. Adding plain squares makes the quilt go faster, too, and gives you the opportunity for wonderful quilting designs. Too much fun, WAY too much fun!

Thanks Susan! I just wanted to see how floaty the rolling stars would be! Way cool!!
Now can you make the dark squares the same color as the background and make all of the star diamonds the same medium-dark color?

I love that you've gone through the exercise and come back to the traditional eight-pointed star, floating on a lighter-value background. And you are right—lots of room for fabulous quilting!Originally posted by suehenyonI didn't think I'd like this but I do. I think scrappy with dark stars and really pale background would be nice. Talk about negative space for quilting!
