Thanks Terrie! Yes, the cost is painful, but...the work comes with a lifetime guarantee. Not just my lifetime, but as long as the house is standing this company guarantees that it will NEVER leak! So, if I decide to sell one day, or my children sell it after I get dead, the guarantee stays with the house. Sounds like a good investment, and I won't ever have to deal with moisture and mildew again. I've discovered mildew in places I wasn't aware of with all this packing and moving, so I really do think it is a good decision.

That sounds like a lot of work, Margo. I've been trying to decide on a floor covering for my upstairs sewing room. So far tile, plush carpet and laminate have been ruled out. I was thinking of going with some Allure Plank Flooring which I understand is also good for basements, but that was ruled out today. So now it's a choice between linoleum or indoor/outdoor carpet. Getting rid of all of that dust will make your room feel really clean when it's done.

Betty Jo. I have carpet in my sewing room and I purchased a large vinyl pad from Office max for under my chairs in both the sewing room and computer room and my chair is really easy to slide around on. Now if only I had a large sewing room. LOL Nan

Margo, I think the repairs are a great investment. It will protect your machines for the meldew too. I have my sewing machines and longarm in the basement too. I have been trying to decide on flooring. Now it is still on the concrete. I don't want carpeting because I drop too many pins and I am barefooted alot. Even if I have shoes on when I go down, I take the one off to use the sewing machine. A pin in the foot is not fun. I was thinking of a wood laminate floor, but not sure yet.

Wood laminate was my first choice, but my DH didn't think it would hold up well with all of the equipment I might be moving around in the room. When I showed him the Allure plank flooring he thought it looked pretty durable but wasn't sure about the thickness. So I did a little research. The main reason I found against it was it needed temperature control and since this is an attic space and if the AC went down it could get pretty hot up there. The video I watched made it look easy to install. I will be looking at the possibilities for indoor/outdoor carpet tomorrow. If the cost isn't too high, that's probably what I will go with. I'm always dropping straight pins too and quickly look for them as soon as they are dropped as they disappear on my carpet.

Cathy, that's what I was thinking when Margo said her LA was on the floor where she is working. That would not be good for it, all the moisture I mean. Growing up in SoDak we always had basements and leaking was a forever problem! I remember my Dad having "window wells" installed, other remediation done during certain 'wet' years.........as far as I know, when I left and married, (1965) there was never a resolution!
My hubby self-installed laminate (we have pets and didn't want pet scratch regrets) and we have loved it. In our living room, hallway, and his office. We have enjoyed it although certainly NOTICE our dust bunneis more. I have decided that the pet hair is there to allow the dust bunnies to have something to cling to when I turn on the ceiling fans. That way they just slide to the perimeter of the room where they are much easier to vacuum up! They just lay there in concentric circles until the vacuum comes!
See there's another good reason for pets..........although I know Margo doesn't have or want them!

Originally posted by MargoNo treasures uncovered, but I am going to take this opportunity to have the flooring totally replaced in the room where my long-arm lives.
It's been on carpet and because I have to move it when I work, the carpet is badly buckled. I'm looking at vinyl that will be glued to the concrete floor, but haven't decided for sure yet.
I thought there was a new barrier for concrete floor that could be put down before flooring... kind of a snap together it like a subfloor... suppose to be better for the flooring and better for your feet and legs to stand on.... Look into the system at Home Depot / Lowes. Can also be used in converted garages.
