Lois, Your flower quilt is so pretty. I made one for my MIL and they are fun to do. I surely never thought to add the leaves though. I love it.

Lois, your GFG quilt is beautiful! I'm not really sure what a butterfly seam is, but you got my attention with both the name (shudder) and the quantity!! Good for you for sticking to it!

Rita, Gyleen said it's not worth trying to do the hexagons by machine unless they were 2 1/2 - 3" across. The idea for the layout came from Gyleen as well. I posted a possible layout in her group on facebook and she made this suggestion. She posted a photo of an old quilt top that she had purchased in an antique store. The idea was not mine, but I liked it to. I will do the border in the green too. I am eager to quilt it. I actually have ideas about what I want to do with the quilt. Same goes for the sampler quilt. I am finding I am not as stumped by "quilt as desired" anymore. All I need is more hours in the day to get things done. Thanks for all the compliments.

There will be a few more of those seams before I am done. I sewed one entire row with the pattern being one hexagon off. Rip-it. Rip-it. Rip-it. It never ends!

Nooooooo!!!! Say it's not soooooooo, Lois! That hurts! I even feel it...

It really is a beautiful GFG quilt top Lois! So sorry you have to "unsew" that row  Keep the good work, you're doing great! I'm collecting polka dot fabrics for a hexies quilt, not sure it'll be a GFG or some other design yet. But I think I'll hand stitch and have it as a "on the go" project.

Ouch! - all I can suggest is that you don't have perfect tension in your machine, because then it is sooo much easier to frog

First of all: Thank you for all the suggestions on how to make my dining room table suitable as a cutting table. I will be on the look-out for bricks, platform shoes, bed-risers etc. I have also found a perfect excuse for acquiring more patchwork and quilting books now. Thank you so much :P

Lois, your GFG quilt is fabulous. I had no idea it was possible to do this pattern by machine unless you cut the hexagons in half. So sorry you had to frog stitch a whole row! Can't wait to see how you quilt this one and to see your second take on the sampler quilt. Thank you for sharing.

                  Have a lovely week-end everyone

I won't be about quite so much for the next week or so - I will be in semi-exile from my sewing room & the computer (although I will still be able to access via my ifad - hopefully) This is because we have a guest arriving this afternoon, and the room has to change identities. It is amazing what you can find when you have to tidy up - like a stack of various blue fabrics all ready and starched, and I cannot for the life of me remember why

I suspect that I will try and get on with some thimble base making, since I don't need a machine for that

if you can't think what to do with all that fabulous blue.... it would fit perfectly into my blue project... gathering all the blues i can get my hands on

Enjoy your guest/s - hope there are no stray needles and pins lying around :!: By the way, what's an iFad? Is it similar to a diddle-y-iPod? (That's a musical device that only plays traditional Irish music.)

Enjoy your house guest, Rosemary as well as your newfound goodies as you repurposed your sewing room!

It must be so for everyone who quilts. When you have to clean-up and reorder the sewing room you always find treasures you didn't know you had. The other thing about having guests is that often I get things done to improve the asthetics of my home that I have been wanting to do but have been pushing off.

Rosemary, Unfortunately, the tension on my machine is quite good. On the other hand, over the years I have become quite skilled and efficient in frog stitch techniques.

Okay, Lois... reading your last two posts, all I could think of was poor little froggie, what did you do to it? The weather is beautiful here in DC, my window is open and I can hear rib-it, rip-it outside...

So do I on the pins & needles front  I call it my ifad, because it is much cheaper, and I desperately wanted a tablet computer to play with, but it is sloooow and easily loses it's connection

I must admit that it is nice having it all tidied up - just needs a hoover - and being able to see my first finished quilt in it's entireity for a change
