BJ, I feel like you do. It takes such a lot of effort to get those pieces to line up every which way. I think I am more of a primitive quilter. I have found that I have to pin the seams on either side of the join so that they don't shift. I think I am too impatient for precision piecing. :?

I just finished my log cabin blocks:
I "cheated" a little bit by making 2 of the blocks as Courthouse Steps, which are a Log Cabin variation, but I wanted to get more variety. The block in the upper left corner looks better in person than in the picture, but the contrast is still pretty low. But I'm okay with that. It's hard to get much contrast when you are limiting yourself to strictly red and black batiks. You have to try to get contrast from the percentage of red in the fabric.
I like how the blocks are looking together. Here they are laid out on the floor:
I'm not sure when I'll actually finish the quilt. I'd like to use the pure black batik from the blocks for the main border, but I just have some 1/2 yd pieces of that fabric that I picked up at a quilt show. It's from Sew Batik, but they are out of stock right now and won't be getting any more in for a couple of months. So I'll order some Amish black from Keepsake Quilting and see how I like that. We'll see how it goes.
For fun, I'm naming this quilt "A Newspaper" as in "what's black and white and red all over?" fame. In my mind, it'll be "A Skunk with a Diaper Rash" since that was our alternative answer. Kind of stupid, but it makes me smile and it's my quilt.

OK, here's one for you. When my dear daughter in law (TQS member Orinebula) came by to pick up my grandson I showed her my blocks. She had a few suggestions, but her biggest one was that she would like to make the traditional blocks I need for a quilt I have designed that uses traditional blocks as part of the picture. I quickly took her up on it.

I do have EQ and this was a frame block that came with it. The closest block I could get for a 6" center for the sampler blocks was slightly smaller than it needed to be, so the points of the stars are cut off a bit, but it's pretty close so not really noticable. I found that EQ has a limitation that even though you can type in the block size, it rounds it to the nearest 1/4" inch. But it all worked out. And I LOVE EQ!Originally posted by crocus999Nancy - your quilt is beautiful, whatever you call it. I think even if you don't find sashing, it looks great just how it is. How did you figure out the angles for the black and white -- do you have EQ?
Thanks!
Nancy
