Pink/Black teen quilt suggestions
Have a 13 year old grand daughter who asked me to make a pink and black quilt. Will use a variety of fabrics in those colors but stumped as to what pattern would best show off this 2 color quilt. Took her to a couple local shops and she showed me a large type pattern of a demo quilt hanging on the wall but it was not quite suited for 2 color quilts. Any suggestions on patterns that would make these colors pop?

Depending on how involved you want to make this quilt, I personally think that the Shakespeare in The Park design by Judy Martin is fabulous for 2 colors:

This topic caught my eye right away. My nephew asked me to make a green and black quilt for him. I've been looking at patterns for two colors also. Margo, I like the pattern you suggested. I looked at the links you provided and there sure are some pretty quilts shown. Thanks for sharing.
Violet, I'm interested in seeing what pattern you decide on and photos of the quilt you make, of course!

Sometime requested colors can be a challenge and force us to work outside of our comfort zone! The Shakespeare in The Park quilt was made for my nephew's HS graduation who requested black and khaki! This was as close as I could make myself go there!!
His sister requested sky blue, hot pink and lime green for hers!!
When I gave it to her I had to laugh because it was an exact match to her tee shirt!

Wow, Margo, those quilts are beautiful! I wish I was related to you.....
Most log cabin quilts are, by nature, suited to two-color quilts. And I've become a big fand of Judy Martin's designs, so would recommend her Log Cabin book, as pointed to by Margo. I'm also working on a blue and white shoo fly quilt at home, and that is another pattern that is a two-color pattern. Of course, this is one of the first quilts that I started so it's questionable if/when I will ever finish that one.
I'll look through my books when I get home to see what other patterns look good. I know I have a book specifically on two-color quilts so that should be useful.

PS If I get the picture instructions right, here's a picture of my Judy Martin Summer River quilt. I've just begun quilting it so hope to have it finished sometime this year. Sorry that the picture is sideways!

I remember seeing a photo of your niece's quilt. It is beautiful.Originally posted by MargoSometime requested colors can be a challenge and force us to work outside of our comfort zone! My nephew's request was for LIME green and black. I started collecting fat quarters here and there, but couldn't bring myself to use just lime greens. I didn't want to put a lot of work into a quilt that he would get tired of quickly, so my collection includes a variety of greens along with blacks and grays. Now I need to decide on a pattern. Originally I just wanted to do quick and easy, but I really like more interesting patterns. I love stars, so naturally I like the Shakespeare pattern. (I ordered Judy's book after I read your post. )
Here's another pattern I just saw recently from Primitive Gatherings:

Now I'm just trying to decide if I want to press forward full steam ahead to get the quilt done for my nephew's birthday at the end of July or procrastinate longer and make it for his college graduation in two years! :? :?Lotti, Kuessnacht - Switzerland

Here’s one of my favorites already finished:

Color of the Ocean Quilt-Backing by TerriA W, on Flickr
I like how you can choose a favorite print fabric that you don't want to cut up for the backing. In your case, you could choose to feature a beautiful pink and black print.

I made this one in pink, black & green for my granddaughter, Amber. It was from a pattern in a Fon's & Porter Love of Quilting Magazine, Nov/Dec 2008. I did it with machine applique and because the pattern was larger, it went together very quickly. I used Minkee as the backing to make it even more huggable.
