    Embroidery Help

I have a Bernina 440QEE and am trying to embroidery a lace ornament cover I purchased from Embroidery Library. I need to know if I should use more than one layer of aqua solvy stablizer and what thread is recommended. I was trying to use bottom line but it keeps breaking. Thanks for any help. I haven't used the embroidery unit even though I have had it a couple of years.

If you scroll down all the forum areas, you'll find one that's dedicated to 'Bernina'. Your question may be better placed there.

If you are doing a lace ornament cover, and it is free standing lace, you may want to try using the same thread in the bobbin as in the needle. I beleive that the finer bobbin thread used for normal embroidery designs, may not hold up as well, because there are a lot more stitches in FSL (free standing lace) to keep it all together that aren't there in normal designs.

Sorry! I did not realize I should ask this questions under the Bernina topic. I was asking more about stablizer and thread than machine.

I just thought you might get more answers in the Bernina section, because what works on a Bernina may not work on other machines.

I agree with Diane that your top and bobbin thread needs to match as you will be seeing the lace from both sides. Sometimes you do need to hoop two layers of the WSS.

I've never used Aqua solvy, but use a product similar to Aqua Mesh, for free standing lace (different brand, looks identical to the OESD product., but lots cheaper, purchased in bulk, off the Internet) The texture is like a loosely woven fabric. I use matching thread in the bobbin, usually a trilobal polyester, or if I'm making white ornaments, I use Bottom line, or other bobbin thread. I also thread the pigtail on the bobbin case.

I get a thread break every once in awhile, but just back up to the break & start up again. There is so much of the product left in the lace after rinsing, that I've not have unraveling so far from doing this.
