    prarie points

I want to put prarie points on a quilt I have just finished but not sure how to figure how many points or what their size should be . Does anyone have advice on this?

    #2
Nancy's Notions has a ruler that is marked for how to make these but I think if you went to her site; looked at the ruler--you would be able to figure it out. I know someone on this site should be able to give you better info.

Here's a few tutes on it too:

This one describes how to measure and make sure you have full points:

This ones shows great pictures of Method 2 shown in the above link:

I just came across Kaye Woods techniques for measuring and making both strip pieced prairie points and piped prairie points. Before now, I had never seen either of these techniques. Here's the link:

I've used prairie points on several quilts and they're a really neat finish for a quilt. The method for continuous prairie points is used when you are only using one fabric/color for the prairie points. The method described in the E-Z Quilts link using 3" squares is used when you are using several or many different fabrics for the prairie points. You can make your squares any size you want, depending on the finished size that would look best for your quilt. I've used the continuous method for the "sawtooth" effect on an applique quilt in my profile pictures. The sawtooth/prairie points are used on the inside of the quilt instead of around the outside border of the quilt. There is also a picture on my profile of a scrappy prairie point border on my 1930's quilt made with a Laura Wheeler pattern. Judy in Torrance
