    batting suggestions needed

I've just finished a quilt top for one of my dd's that has a large fused applique on it. In hindsight (which is always 20-20 isn't it?) I should probably have fused only the edges of the applique instead of the whole thing. Well that's done, so now I want a batting that either won't shrink or is easy to pre-wasy. I've found Hobb's Thermore polyester batting - any thoughts or experiences with that or others?

    TIA

    Darce
    Happy Quilting,

Are you going to hand or machine quilt? I really like polyester for hand quilting but I've also hand quilted VERY thin cotton. The polyester won't shrink at all.

I'm going to machine quilt it. If I hand quilted she might not get it in this life time! lol Thanks for your reply.

I'd give wool a try. Matilda's Own or Hobbs. I've used both and love how they machine quilt.

Cathy Franks was the guest in the chatroom last night, and she recommended wool batting. If it's good enough for somebody of her experience and caliber.......

Personally, I only have one bed quilt with wool batting that was made by friends for me when I went through a very tough time. It's permanently on my bed and I was surprised how light and cosy the quilt is. At the same time it's also really warm on cold nights.

Is the wool machine washable tho? I need to be able to throw it in the washing machine when necessary.

Matilda's own and Hobbs are both machine washable.

              Love them both.

Hobbs Heirloom wool is machine washable, but the Hobbs Tuscany needs hand washing. Quilters Dream also do a lovely wool which is machine washable, it's got slightly more loft than the Hobbs. Matilda's Own can also be machine washed, not sure how available it is in the US, but it is lovely to work with, slightly firmer than the Hobbs and Quilters Dream. Wool is my first choice for a bed quilt.

All the polyesters are machine washable and won't shrink. I like Hobbs Polydown which is light and soft. Look at one of the Quilters Dream polys if you want something a bit firmer.
