Can't wait for the applique lessons Alex!! I just love needle turn but am willing to learn other techniques! Thanks for your mini lessons Alex, I just love them!! I really enjoyed the field trip to P&B also!
    Happy Quilting,

For applique, try "Invisible Applique" book by Ami Simms. It is a wonderfully easy technique and also works for hand piecing. Wish Alex & Ricky would have her on their show.
I agree with "Ladyquilter" and "Nancy in STL", a technique index would be wonderful. I, too, have looked for (but not always found) special techniques from past shows.

APPLIQUE questions are popping up on allllll the quilting forums... I just bought the Elly Sinkiewicz DVD from C&T publishing on beginning Baltimore Album. She teaches cut away technique using needle turn, reviews basic information on supplies. The DVD also has 3 block patterns included. My only disappointment was there were several finished blocks for her newest quilt but no quilt gallery showing her past work.

The technique were easily demonstrated and easy to view... I had taken several classes in applique but do not do a lot of it, Elly's explanation were good and she demonstrated every point DVDs are great for reviewing information presented. I bought the DVD for $19 plus S&H from C&T... it arrived in less then a week from my order.

        Hope this helps

          OK Alex, convince me.

I have been having a sort through my sewing room trying to decide where I'm going next. I found a Lynne Edwards sampler quilt I was going great guns on until I came to the applique block. I've stalled. I'm really not enjoying the applique.

I must have done 9 blocks in a matter of a couple of weeks but I've not done a stitch for at least another 4 weeks since starting this block. I keep finding other things to do rather that the applique!!! Help! How can this be enjoyable??!! :?

I used to feel the same way until a found an applique technique that eliminates the needleturn step that I didn't think I could master. Determine what it is about applique that you do not like and find a technique that eliminates that part. If you just don't enjoy hand sewing, you could try any one of the many machine applique technique--personally, I like to free motion stitch over turned edges (no raw edges for me). Check out the art quilts at http://syko.typepad.com/syko/quilt/ where I discovered the technique.

            Enjoy,
            Nancy

Thanks for that Nancy, I will have a good look through.

Last night I forced myself to finish this block all bar the hand quilting (QAYG) which I will do later. I did it through gritted teeth and the dogs were going around with their tails between their legs, but I finished. I won't be doing another one too soon!

I never have really like Baltimore quilts and I think I now know why. I instinctivly know I wouldn't enjoy doing one!!! Believe me I like fiddly. I nearly always do the harder thing to push and challenge myself but not this!

Perhaps I just don't like the end result because I do several types of applique on my art quilts but that's sort of doing what it takes to arrive at the result I want!!
