    Editing Posts

Why do I occasionally see a post with the note "Edited by . . . " and another copy of the poster's picture inside it?

If this pops up whenever someone edits a post after s/he has initially submitted it, how come I never see this happen when I edit my own posts?

Frankly, I'd prefer (and hope!) that no one but me knows whether I've edited my posts. I like to keep my spelling and grammatical mistakes a secret . . . 'cause I am, after all, an editor!

To prove my point, I just went into my first post and edited it. And I don't see any evidence that anyone else can tell I did it.

I never used to get an extra picture when I edited but for some reason last time it appeared - one is enough for me. Maggi

If you edit your post before anyone reads it, there will be no prove you ever edited it
But, If you realize your misspelling etc after someone read it, and you edit...then a nice picture of yourself shows inside the post

Early on someone suggested that if we do edit, and it's going to say "edited by..." we add WHY it was edited. "Edited for spelling" is one thing, but if I substantively change what it said, maybe responses that were already there won't make sense to later readers. Oh, maybe I'm not making sense here, but like Anne, I'm an editor at heart....
