    FEWER IS BETTER

The more I hang here the more I see the need for less categories rather than more. We all tend to post in the same categories at the top of the forum and less at the bottom ones. Even when we post at the bottom there are less replies and less views on those posts.

I think it would make a better board to have less choices. I often forget where I posted last and I personally find this forum rather confusing.

I think 6 categories would be better.... JUST MY OPIONION

    Interesting.

I don't really ever look at the categories.....UNLESS.....I am posting a new question of my own. Then I try to find the right place to put it.

Otherwise, when I open the forum window, I just click on the upper right of the forum opening page and select "View Posts Since Last Visit" and I only read what's new.

For me this avoids looking around through old stuff searcing for "new stuff." Hope my abundance of really hi-tech terms doesn't bother you. LOL

I like having lots of options for answering my questions or for general discussion. The more I use the forum site, the easier it is becoming to scroll quickly and find what I'm looking for. Or sometimes I just click on something interesting to see what people are saying about it. I think the site is organized nicely. It works for me.

I'm confused, I'm not sure where to look. I just went back & can't find "View Posts Since Last Visit". Is it on the very beginning of the Forum or on each subject. I'm missing something. I've been on the computer for years with the Internet BUT not on Forums.

It's only on the forum home page--but also, once the topics come up, if you click on the little "turned page"icon at the far right, it will take you to the VERY last post, so you might have to scroll up to see all the new ones if it's been very active, or a while since you checked. Good luck! Florence

I agree with the less is more approach. There are so many categories, and so many sub-categories, that it could extremely confusing to remember where you saw a particular thread. And did you notice how some of the threads go off on a tangent anyway? Even if you're marking your posts, that juicy discussion on fabric may have gotten off-topic. Sheesh!

PLEASE CONDENSE THIS BOARD... IT IS TOO HARD TO SURF THROUGH....

SOME OF THE TOPICS ARE RUDENT... YOU WOULD HAVE A BETTER FLOW AND MORE INTERACTION IF THERE WERE GENERAL TOPICS .... AND LESS GOING FROM PAGE TO PAGE...

THOSE PEOPLE WHO HAVE DIAL UP WITH SLOW LOAD TIMES THIS BOARD IS A DAUGHNTING AND FRUSTRATING

I run another sewing forum. I have found that if you start with too many topics, it looks like a 'ghost town' and new members won't post as it doesn't look like any one is there.

It's better to start with a few and let it grow naturally.

                    Good luck in all things!!!

I've posted several times about too too too too many categories and sub-subjects ........ I guess no one is listening. Too many doesn't lend itself for people to get to know each other....... gosh you can't cover every single thing in the quilting world.

Hey over here ....... do you read us?????

I think a lot of us are very happy with the board just as it is, Dixie. I was pretty bewildered until I found the "view posts since last visit" thing, but now I can just see what's been posted on since yesterday, and it's very manageable. If I have a question about something, I can look for the appropriate place on the Forum to ask it, then wait for someone to answer.

It also helps if you scroll to the bottom of the page where you write your reply, and click the box next to "Notify me when a reply is posted". Then you will get an e-mail telling you when someone has posted after you!

I prefer more organization (read: categories) myself. If I'm looking to see what I paid for my electric service last month, it'll be much easier to find in a folder marked Electric (or even Utilities) than in a folder marked Bills where I stuck everything paid last month LOL!

Also the board is still relatively new, so it would be a bit premature with so many new folks still joining, to start dismissing certain topics as of little interest.

What I AM missing is a viable search function, however. In most forums when one clicks on the Search link, you have the option to search the forum for a certain word/topic. I'm just not finding a Search Forum option here, ya know? *scratching head
