    Featherweight walking foot

Do any of you have a walking foot for your FW? If so, where did you get it? I would like to get one, but want to be sure it will a) work well on the machine and b) not cause any problems with it. I'm almost positive this attachment was not available when these machines were originally made. I love using my FW when traveling or going to classes, and would like to have this foot available when using it. Thanks! Nancy

Nancy, I'm not sure if these will work, but you can call before you order to ask:

I used to sell walking feet through our business. Walking feet for domestic machines are quite generic. There are three shanks--low, high and slant. If the shank fits you're good to go. Low shank is by far the most common. I'm sure the shops can help you on deciding the shank.

I have a Singer industrial machine and that becomes quite a different matter. I've worn out two and haven't been able to track down a new foot. It forced me to really work on my free motion quilting but there are times nothing but the walking foot is perfect. In fact, a sewing machine shop dealer had to manufacture the darning foot.

I have a walking foot for my FW and it works fine. The FW is a LOW SHANK machine so you need a low shank foot. I got mine from a local dealer quite a few years ago, but I just put "Walking foot for Featherweight" into Google and came up with quite a few retail choices.

This one is about what I paid and I think this is a reputable company (though I have not bought from them, I have heard of them):

Margo, the Notions by Nancy link comes up to a dead page. But the Clotilde link does show a two choices: the deluxe walking foot and the more economical one. As long as you order the one for LOW Shank you should be fine with either. The deluxe is item # 106757 and the economical is item # 106697.

Thanks, Michelle, for letting me know about the web page, but if you enter "walking foot" in the search box, it comes up.

Thank you, all, for your quick replies! I knew I could count on some excellent input! For some reason, I've thought that because the FW is an older, although very sturdy and reliable, machine, a walking foot might not be a good thing to use on it. Obviously, that is not the case. I'll check out the links you've provided, and get one ordered pronto! Thanks again. Nancy

I bought a Singer low-shank walking foot from eBay several years ago, and it's great on my Featherweights. I think it was made in the 1950s. I also bought a new reproduction walking foot a few years ago, and it's okay, but not quite as good.
