I got this word from Bernina USA on a discussion on Facebook about the Bernina Ruler Foot. Thought you'd find this encouraging.

Bernina USA Hello Betty, Lisa and Teri, the BERNINA Ruler Foot #96 that you’ve mentioned is included with the Ruler Kit, which is an optional accessory for our longarm machines on a frame. Currently, we’re testing the BERNINA Ruler Foot #96 for use on domestic sewing machines. As soon as we receive the results of the testing, we’ll inform our fans. Thanks for following BERNINA USA on Facebook!

I totally agree. I have the Bernina low shank adaptor and bought the Janome ruler foot as per Amy Johnson's advice. Not easy to work with.
However just this day saw that Westalee rulers in Oz have developed a ruler foot that can fit the Bernina low shank adaptor. Available end of January. I'll phone tomorrow (monday) for an update. I think they are working on a high shank model. Check out the videos on youtube by Westalee. Ruler foot for domestic machines. they also have a selection of some rulers that will work in that they are thinner.
No I don't work for Westalee. I just can't wait for the Bernina #96 to become available.

I went to the Westalee site and watched the videos using the templates and ruler foot that can be adaptsed for the Bernina. I already had a short shank adapter foot for my Bernina Artista 200, which is about nine years old. However, you need the #77 adapter foot for use with the Westalee foot. I am very interested in their products, including the templates, but the shipping from Australia is so expensive. A friend in My Bee, is also interested in ordering. Turns out she is traveling to Melbourne soon, so Westalee said they would ship our order to her hotel. I had a specific question before I decided to order, so I emailed the company. Bill responded very quickly and answered my question. He also said they are going to be announcing a dealer in the U.S. sometime in April. They seem to be most accommodating and I can't wait to try the foot. I was able to find the #77 adapter foot on eBay for $10.50 including shipping. I should be all set to go when my friend gets back to Texas. I'm sure it will take quite a bit of practice, but I'm anxious to give it a try. Westwlee has a FB page. Hopefully they will announce the U.S. dealer on there.

I've had a Westerlee foot on order for about a month now. I got word it has shipped. I wonder how long it will take to get here from Australia. I may also buy the Bernina foot when it comes out, but that might take a lot of time, since it's been almost two months now that I've had my 97D foot on order and it still isn't in and I can't even order the 96 yet. Anyway, it looks like eventually I will get set up for ruler work on my Bernina.

Hello, Sewdreamy, I live in France, my friend who is working for Bernina told me that this foot has just been available, she has been waiting for it a long time, since this summer, Bernina was keeping this Patchwork foot for Bernina dealers, I have ordered mine from Belgium, they had few available.

It took four months for me to get the 97d foot and it has exceeded all of my expectations. I highly recommend it.
