Bernina needs a ruler foot
I just watched Patsy Thompson's great video on using long arm rulers with her domestc sewing machineand decided this is something I could really use. So I called my Bernina dealer and asked her if there was a ruler foot for my machine. She said that she thinks they are working on one, but she will call and ask about it. I hope they get one soon because I already have a quilt in the works I could use it for. It will take me a while to get to the place where I want to use it, so Bernina, you have a little time, but not much.
I did see there is a way to make one, but it requires buying several Janome feet and a couple of Bernina feet and then jerry rigging it. Not what I want to do.

Betty,
What a wonderful idea! I wholeheartedly agree. Using rulers for quilting seems to be more and more common. I just finished scanning the latest American Quilter magazine by AQS. They had at least 2 articles on using rulers with a long arm.
I would dearly love to have a ruler foot for my Bernina.
Anyone know the best way to ask Bernina to get this done?

I personally contacted Bernina USA about a year ago regarding the possibility of creating a ruler foot for the domestic machine and again last month after Bernina launched its longarm (Q20 sit-down model and Q24 longarm) machines and claimed the presser feet from the domestic machine could be used on their longarm. Conversely, one would expect the longarm presser foot to fit the domestic machine, so I specifically asked whether the longarm presser foot #96 (a ruler foot) was interchangeable between longarm and my 8 series machine. The response I got was that foot #96 has not been tested on a domestic machine yet nor did they have any release dates for any of the longarm accessories. I would conclude from that statement that they are not currently working on a ruler foot for the domestic machine. However, there is always the possibility that, when presser foot #96 becomes available as an accessory, it might fit the domestic machine.

Although I prefer to FMQ on my Brother machine I am almost tempted to get this setup for my 730 Bernina - I already have the shank adapter to use Husqvarna/Viking feet on it. I hope Brother or Babylock will bring one out too.

Good morning everyone! It's been simply ages since I've logged into TQS and WOW Just WOW.
Sherry Boquist mentioned this thread so I'm popping in to share a little bit.
Lisa Calle http://lisacalle.wordpress.com/ and I are heading to one of our local BERNINA dealers in January to shoot some video on using rulers with a domestic (home sewing machine). As soon as we have this done I will come back in here and post links to our respective websites and blogs. I've used rulers on my B 780 - and wrote about it in 2 posts: http://terificreations.wordpress.com/2014/12/01/whole-cloth-challenge-3/
http://terificreations.wordpress.com/2014/10/08/loving-this-ruler/
I used two different feet the #24 and the #26 with great success.
As for BERNINA what I can say is be patient. I've heard rumors. Okay, okay there might be a little more here but for the moment just be patient.
Happy Quilting!

Thanks, Teri! I went back and reread your two blog entries, watched the Patsy Thompson video and grabbed the longarm 10" ruler (Wilowleafstudio) my sister had given me to play with (and was reluctant to do), added some gripping material to the bottom of the ruler and with my #24 presser foot on my Bernina 830, I made straight lines and it was easy. I wish I had the higher ruler foot, but I did not have trouble with the #24 foot as long as I had gripping material under the ruler.

Oh this is good to know. I think I will borrow some of my daughter-in-law's rulers and give them a good try before I invest in some of my own. It would be so good of them if they made a genuine hopper foot for us. But I'll give this a try. Thanks.

I don't have any experience with the Parrs Reel ruler but just found a review from someone who has. It is on Amy's Free Motion Quilting Adventures blog (I think she is also a TQS member). You can find the review at http://freemotionquiltingadventures.blogspot.com/2014/12/a-ruler-foot-alternative-parrs-reel.html. Hope this helps.
