    Bernina bobbin alert

On my current Bernina (640), as well as on my previous Bernina (180), the bobbin alert doesn't work. The sensor tells me the bobbin is empty, even when it has just been filled. I keep the bobbin area clear of lint, and the little sensor lens is clean. Does anyone know if there is a simple way to fix this problem? Or do I need a whole new sensor? :?: :?:

While I don't pretend to know about those two machines, on the 730, if the door to the bobbin housing was not shut, the alarm would go off.

Sometimes when my 830 does that, it just needs a good cleaning.

My old 200E used to do that with just the slightest bit of lint or thread in the bobbin. I think it can be turned off if it is overly sensitive. Perhaps your dealer can help.

Thanks, Sue, Lorna, and Betty Jo. I do keep it very clean...I guess I must just have a bum sensor. Maybe I'll try cleaning it with a q-tip and some rubbing alcohol, though it seems that if the sensor lens were dirty, it would read the bobbin as full! One of life's mysteries. I appreciate your input!

Those sensors are known to be really finicky. I just turned mine off.

I had this problem with my Pfaff right after it was serviced. The machine was constantly slowing down and telling me the bobbin was empty when I knew it wasn't. I discovered by accident if I left the bobbin door open it disengaged the sensor. I had almost finished the project that I was working on by then! Now I'm leaving the door open until time for the next service.

Yes, the alert's been turned off since I got the machine! It would just be nice to use one of the Bernina's features!

Jan, If it is a Bernina, you did not say, but I bet myself I could find the answer in 30 sec by just googling the problem. I did, maybe. You did not say which model you have, but it might be the same.
If you google the title on the photo you can watch a video. Short answer for a 5 series Bernina machine,
go to the settings icon,, looks like a couple gears, then click on the eye ball icon. That is sensors.
If it looks like the eye is shut, it is off, just click on it and the eye opens. Problem solved
                    If you have another manufacturer
you could always go to the user manual. It is sure to be in there. HelenW
