Bernina 750QE stop the secure stitches

Hello ~ I haven't had my Bernina for very long, but something has me stumped as well as the gals at the sewing store where I bought the machine. I'd like to be able to sew with the auto secure stitching not engaged. There are times when I just don't want it to stitch in place every time at the beginning of sewing. In settings, I did touch the picture of the knot to remove the box around it...tried taking away the highlight box around the knot anywhere I find it in settings. It will still stitch in place several stitches before continuing to sew. Is there a particular stitch that needs to be chosen for it to sew, to achieve what I want? There has to be a way to do this..
Thanks for any help you can give a new Bernina owner!

Hi PammieAnn, and welcome to the TQS forum!

I've contacted my local service man and he needs to know what model your Bernina is before he can offer advice.

Hello Margo! I have the Bernina 750 QE (without embroidery module). I've had it a very short time..it's brand new. We were at the Northwest Quilt, Craft and Sewing show last weekend, and while there spoke with the folks at the Quality Sewing booth where they were demonstrating the Bernina 750. The gals there thought that all that was needed was to un-highlight the box around the little knot symbol that represents secure stitch. I did that in several places, but when I began stitching it would still do a secure stitch at the beginning. I gave my name and phone number and was told they would speak with the Bernina educator but I never heard back. Their machine behaved the exact same way mine did, at the quilt show. All of the knot symbols were de-selected and their Bernina 750 would still do a secure stitch when it began to sew. They were as stumped as I was! There has to be a way for the machine to begin sewing a straight stitch without sewing a secure or locking stitch first. Thank you for any help you can give with this!

I assume you have been in the setup section, where you can personalize your machine. It could be a software glitch, but I don't know any person who owns it, so nobody to ask.

Bernina knows about the problem. It is an issue with the 710 and 750 machines only. The next firmware update will fix it and it is guesstimated that it will be out soon. Ask your dealer to let you know when they get an email from Bernina about its availability.

Thanks so much! I had no idea it was a problem...I thought I just hadn't figured out how to do it yet! I'll have them let me know when the update becomes available. Thanks again!

I don't think Bernina thought it was a problem until lots of folks started asking the same question as yourself. Weird thing is that the 780 doesn't do it. Crazy. The 750 is an awesome machine isn't it!

                    PammieAnn,
I just purchased the 780E at Houston. I was told by the Bernina rep that the machine is programmed to do this knot at the beginning, but that you can turn it off. I had the Bernina dealer do that when I picked up my machine. I can't remember how she did it though! But there is a way!

                      Wanda,

The 780 doesn't have the glitch...just the 710 and the 750. My Bernina dealer just today said the fix will be in the next firmware update. I can't wait for the fix because it drives me crazy.

So...there has been a new firmware update put on the Bernina site. I updated my Bernina, and I still cannot stop the secure stitch. Seems the only way to prevent the secure stitch is by using the manual thread cutter on the side of the machine. I emailed Bernina to see if there is a particular setting I need to change...and all I got back was "take your Bernina to your dealership for a firmware update". Unless they have an update newer than what is on the Bernina site, that won't help. Has anyone been able to update their machine and been successful at stopping the secure stitch at the beginning of every seam? Thanks!!

PammieAnn, call me when you are in front of your machine and we can walk through the process. There were multiple areas to turn off before it 'really' stopped. My phone number is 503.756.1426.
