finding an old manual - Bernina 1020 - help?
I'm a new(ish) quilter and just got my first ever machine, a wonderful used Bernina 1020, which did not come with the manual.
I went to the Bernina website where they do have a ton of out of print manuals for download, but I found the 1011 and the 1031 but NOT the 1020 -- anyone know if one or the other of those would be close enough to get me started???
I've never used a machine before at all, so I really need a manual to learn this. How to thread the needle, how to do the bobbin, what all those levers and settings and everything mean....I truly know nothing.
I downloaded both manuals, the 1011 and the 1031, just in case, and I've emailed Bernina to see if they can answer or direct me to one for the 1020, but any suggestions are greatly appreciated in the meantime!
thanks,
HeatherTags: None

Oh this is exciting! I found where you can download your manual in a pdf file for $10. Here's the link:

Hope this helps. I love to see new sewists joining the fun. Hang in there, the first little while can be a little frustrating, but it's sooooo much fun in the end.

thanks, both! I'm hoping that Bernina will come to the rescue with a free one, since the 1011 and the 1031 are both free downloads. I will definitely pay the $10 if not!
Betty Jo, I've been sewing for about 18 months, but never on a machine, LOL! I'm hoping the learning curve to switch from hand to machine isn't too terribly steep...I'm excited how much faster I'll be able to finish projects, once I get this figured out!

Oh you'll love how much faster it is, and having the underpinning of hand sewing is always a great thing to hold on to. Hope Bernina comes through. I'd be interested to know if it does. I have a great old Bernina 1230 and a new Bernina 830. Like you, I'm struggling to learn all I can about my new machine.

That's great Heather. Now the main thing is to read the manual before you start to use the machine so that you don't make all the mistakes I made! But if you are having trouble even after checking out the manual then this is the place to ask questions. We quilters are a helpful bunch and there is always help for those who seek it here at Hogwarts....hang on a minute that's not right  Anyway, I am sure you get my drift. Oh you are just beginning on the most exciting journey. And, every programme you watch on TQS will teach you so much more about quilting and machine work. Enjoy the ride! Rita.

Yes, I plan to spend the weekend (at least!) reading the manual and figuring things out. My dad & stepmom also sent me home with 99 cent/yard fabric to practice on as I learn what I'm doing so that is even better! Some even with batting so I can practice all sorts of things. (the machine was my Christmas gift). I'm thrilled to finally have the manual and start playing some!
And definitely watching TQS episodes as well...so inspirational!
