I've Been Delivered a New Baby!

    How pretty is she??

I've been taking Bob to workshops and having my heart in my mouth every time I've put him in the car. The 730 is not a small or cheap machine to be throwing around! After looking around for something more travel friendly, Bernina just launched the new 3 series! They must have seen I was looking.

Not sure what she will be called yet, she'll have to sit with Bob a while. Something will grow on me. Daughter will be pleased too. I think Bob scares her a little.

Very slick! I especially like the slide on tray...very 830 like. Sliding motor speed is good too.

    Congrats!

OOO I really like this beauty & will have to check it out. I am considering taking my 830 with me for a 2 week retreat this summer but now maybe I will go for a visit to my friendly dealer.

What features do you like the best?

        I've only just unpacked it!

        Why I chose it:

It's a Bernina. I don't see the point in learning new techniques on a machine that is hugely different than the main machine.

I has the good basic functions that we know and love of the big ones. Needle up/down, knee lift, very adjustable in needle position, tension and foot pressure and speed, memory and a great selection of stitch patterns without going OTT.

It came with a good selection of feet.

It's a fair bit lighter than my 730! But it's also still quite solid and robust.

I won't die if something should happen to it in transit.

And it's good looking too!

And the slide on table works like a dream. I'm always fighting the one on Bob!

          Amo,
I just went to the Bernina site and it's not listed.

            There you go Eileen, http://www.bernina.com/3series/en/

I have a feeling that it hasn't had a US release yet though.

I think that you are correct Amo. It is not on the Bernina USA or Canadian sites. On the map of Europe it states that it only available in select countries & shows northern Europe. Love the features it offers!

Congratulations on the new baby. She is beautiful. So, I have a viking and have no idea what you are all talking about with sliding. What does this mean?????? I love all the features of the 820, but $$$$$ just a bit more than I can manage. Cheryl.

                          Amo,
I spoke to my dealer about your new baby when we had Bernina club yesterday. She was not aware of the series & said that different regions (multiple countries) often had machines with different numbers or features according to their needs.

I know Australia, Europe and UK have it but then we were all last with the 8 series.

It's doing a cracking job so far! Mind you it doesn't help when the first time I switch it on it makes the most alarming noise. Took me a moment or so to realise I knocked the bobbin winder forward and it was whirring away empty.

There's no big fanfare when it switches on, it just is ready to sew. I don't miss the fanfare. Even OH yells 'Morning Bob', when he hears it.

I thought I'd miss the auto cutter but then realsied I don't really use the one on Bob much anyway.

The needle threader works just about first time every time! A huge improvement on Bob!!

I do miss the pedal back to change the needle position.

It seems a very neat and dainty sewer but then it's the 5.5mm throat plate and width and after Bob's 9mm that's hardly surprising.

Cjbeg, it can be used totally foot free and has stop start and speed on the head.

Alex, her crib looks like a bomb's hit it but it's very sewish and quilterly!!

That is so cute and looks like the perfect machine to take to classes and retreats!
