Bernina 820/830 Instructional DVD
I just got my Bernina 820 and I was wondering if you all got an instructional DVD with yours?
If you did would that be something I need my dealer to get me?
She said she didn't have one.

Yes you absolutely should have been given an instructional DVD for the 830/820. Although it is good, go to the Bernina USA site & sign up for all their webinars on the 830/820s. They are terrific. There are also Yahoo groups which will get you connected world wide. Connect to Libbi & she will help you. Welcome aboard!

Thanks ladies, yes the dealer looked everyone and couldn't find one. She is supposed to order me one.
I did actually sew on it today, after about a couple hours of fear. I like how it sewed. Couple of things I couldn't figure out but I am sure I will.
I will definately sign up for the webinars. Joany

I don't think you can get TOO much info on the 820/830. Check out the webinars, Yahoo groups, websites from generous users, Amanda Whitlatch, etc. Surf the net. There is a lot of capability and functionality in these sewing computers and a lot to learn.
I am also keeping a separate diary with info and tips and self discoveries, tension setting that may be specific to my machine, etc. It is just too much info to keep in my head. At my age, the "disk is full." :?
PS. My 830 arrived with the language set to French, the manual in English, and the DVD in German. I set the machine to English, downloaded the "Final 830 Manual" from the USA Bernina Website, but there is no hope for the DVD. Of course, the one I am helpless with is German! The joys of living in a country with 4 official languages (English is NOT one of them).

Hey Libbi, I pieced my first quilt on it today. So far so good. Once you get the threading down it becomes second nature.
I have also started a notebook and will start keeping tips and printouts in it to have handy.
I haven't used the BSR yet, will have to try that later this weekend. I did join a couple of groups and I pray I don't have the problems that many seem to be having with various parts.
Thanks for the tips. Joany

May I suggest that along with engaging the dual feed, you reduce your presser foot pressure to about 35? I think you will be most pleased!

cj, I have been looking at your sewing room. Drool! How big is it?
Do you have your 830 on your EZ sew table? If so, have you placed it on the flat surface or purchased yet another insert? I have not as yet as I didn't know if it would fit & was concerned about operating the bobbin area when the machine was flush. I have inserts for my 2 Husqvarnas which I sold to buy my 830 & have no further use for them. However I love the EZ sew table & take it to all retreats that I attend.
Thanks for the tip of reducing the pressure foot tension to 35 it really has helped.

Bunny, I have 2 sewing rooms, they are side by side and both are 9' x 12', not very big.
I use the SewEzi table in the RV, I don't have it in the house. My 830 is in the Horn cabinet that was marketed with the 830. I had to purchase an insert for it.
I don't think the 830 would fit on the SewEzi table. Definitely not flush!

I think the SewEzi is a wonderful table for the standard size machine. I however, would never put my 830 in it if they have an insert for it, it would be so top heavy and while the table is sturdy.... it's not THAT sturdy. Just my 2 cents, for whatever it's worth.

Thanks I agree with you. It just would not be stable. I have my 830 on my 10 foot table & keep my 430 on the SewEzi & serger on another small table. Ths configuration makes a U.
From time to time I suggest to my DH that we knock the wall down between my room & his office to give me a bigger space but no deal.

Pickleweed - did you take a 830 class from the Bernina peeps? If not, HIGHLY recommend. My LQS has a six week class and just learning maintenance was an eye opener. There is another manual that they give you in the class and you do samples of different stitches using different feeties. The biggest thing they tell you - OIL each day and vacuum clean after each use. Our new babies are HIGH maintenace!
