Thanks ladies, it is good to know that I am not the only one who didn't know it was there. Page 14 in this manuel doesn't have the needle threader and the page that does, does not have a picture of the thread cutter.

Diane, I have the 440 in the table and I just had to make sure the feet of the table were set. I kinda pushed them out and that made the machine stop bouncing.

BeardieLover mentions how great the Bernina walking foot is. Did you know they are coming out with one that has a guide on it for stitch in the ditch quilting? BTW - I have no thread cutter by the needle screw on my 440QE! Carolyn in Kerrville, TX

            Hi Carolyn!
I just bought my machine at the start of April so maybe that thread cutter is something Bernina added? It's the first time I've seen a thread cutter to be used with the needle threader -- Bernina certainly likes their thread cutters! On the bobbin, on the bobbin winder, the one by the needle threader and the one at the left side of the machine head. I do miss not having a button to push to cut but know that's on the higher models . . .
Oh gad another foot I'll want?! The walking foot you describe sounds wonderful! I really love the walking foot -- it just seems to operate smoother![/b]

              Hi Lynn!
              Sorry I can't give you any info about the 630 -- I couldn't afford it . . .

                Ritzy, Hi!
Once I slowed down the bouncing stopped ;o] I probably had too much coffee!

Off this topic a HUGE thank you to you for all the pictures you took at Rosemont -- you found quilts that somehow I missed seeing!
Wish I could have met you -- perhaps next year!!

Diane - I think you got a bonus with your newer machine. Mine is a 2006. I even had a mirror under the needle threader area looking for the cutter! The stitch in the ditch guide is actually another plate you will use on your current walking foot. Hopefully it won't be too expensive. Aren't these machines fun. Carolyn in Kerrville, TX

                    Hi Carolyn!
I'm finally getting used to the BSR -- I never really had a problem doing free motion quilting and I love to do it so I got very used to "listening" to the sound of the motor depending on which machine I was using (my Janome 6500 or my Brother PQ1500) and I love just doing free motion without the BSR on the 440QE BUT I am bound and determined to get the BSR down! Sew far sew good!

Now my concern is getting a big quilt under the harp since I'm spoiled with my other two machines !!

I love all the feet -- clever people at Bernina!

I bought a 44QE in January. The dealer mentioned new owner classes (free!) so I signed up. There were several different machines represented in each class but we each learned so much about our own individual machines. Among other things, that's how I learned about all the thread cutters on my 440QE. I strongly recommend taking new owners classes if they're available. They were well worth the time, 40 mile round trip and the carrying of that 27 pound machine. Boy, that thing is heavy!

One very interesting thing I learned in that class: use a dollar bill to clean the upper thread tension. Remove the thread from the top, then slide the bill up and down in the area where the thread normally goes down, up and back down from the spool to the needle. I hope this makes sense.

The teacher (who is the owner of the shop) told us that her machine technician (he takes care of her numerous machines) recommends that she use a $100 bill and that she leave it for him. But then, he is her son!

A $1 bill works very well and doesn't leave any lint behind. It's amazing how much fuzz can accumulate in the tension area. I don't know what that it's called but you know where I mean.
