    Magnifier

Has anyone purchased the Bernina Magnifing set and if so do you think it was a worthwhile purchase. I have a manifyier that could be attached to the machine but it is quite bulky and only has one strength (triple) Really would appreciate any feed back before I decide to make the purchase. As you know parts are rather pricey. Thanks Nan in cold upstate NY

I bought the magnifier and didn't like it at all and never used it. Finally gave it to my friend a couple of months ago and she loves it and uses it all the time. So I guess I'm not much help at all.

I cannot work without my magnifiers. One of the best investments I ever made. That being said, other people have sat down at my machine and hated them. MY suggestion would be to try it out first if you can. I know Ricky has them and also loves them. Cindy is STL

Thanks for the replies..Decided to wait and use the one I had that you put the band around your head and there were to different lens magnifations pieces. Found one that can work.. If I get to see the dealer next summer I will see if she has one on hand that I can try. Once again ...Thanks for the replies. Nan in snowy and cold Massena, NY

I had the magnifier installed in March. I use it 99% of the time; I don't know what I did without it.

I have the set still in a box. I thought that I have to have a tech attach it? Was $50.00 I think. Got 3 in the box.

Boy, this thread is timely for me. I've been using a magnifier/lamp for years, (after 50, vision seemed the first thing to go) but I've been thinking of buying the Bernina attachments. Are all three magnifiers the same strength?

Hi, Yes they are all different. I think I read in a manual that they have to be attached where you bought the machine.

With all magnifyers be very careful to keep the sun's rays from them when they are unattended. A member of my guild here in Florida burned a hole in her quilt by leaving her magnifyer over her quilt and in the sun. Take care. Betty Ann

Don't they just clip onto the little metal piece that sticks out of the front of the machine? You know, the one with the rubber cover that keeps falling off

Instead of the magnifiers, I have a Dazor magnifier light. It has a big magnifier lens to look through (some 8 inches across) and has a bright circular fluorescent light around the perimeter. I position it so I look right through it. A fantastic magnified and well lighted view. THEN, in addition, I aim the little "Bendable Light" right on the needle. Most people mount it on the left side of the machine, but I have mine right on top, so I can aim it so the light shines on the needle from the RIGHT side. ALL this is in addition to some pretty heavy duty track lighting on the ceiling. This has proven to be a terrific set-up, and I never sew now without all the additional light and magnification. Oh, yeah, and I don't have to wear my glasses! You guys who are squinters should really try my recipe!!

From the Bernina class I took last year, some of the machines had a place on the machine to attach the magnifier and some didn't. My Aurora 435 doesn't have that feature and I would have to have it attached by my dealer. Judy in Torrance

I was annoyed by the little metal arm with the rubber cover that kept falling off (it interfered with me changing feet, threading the needle, working with my bobbin, etc.) so after a year and a half, I opened my 430 and unclipped it from the inside. Then, a few days later, I went to applique class and saw someone using the magnifier and thought it was wonderful. Of course, I haven't clipped the arm back on or bought the magnifiers yet...

I'm with you, PDQuilt! I have a Dazor magnifier lamp as well, and it's the best thing I ever bought. It's especially useful for removing slivers!

I also have sixteen 48-inch, full-spectrum fluorescent tubes on the ceiling. You could do surgery in my studio. Let there be light!

This just keeps getting more interesting. I'm with those of you who have lots of lighting in their sewing space. I think I read somewhere that for each five to ten years of age, you need to add so much lighting to work comfortably. I sure find that's true with me. I have some great overhead track lighting in my sewing room, but I need the magnification, as well

I'm intrigued by the Dazor that has been mentioned. Where did you purchase it? Online? Look forward to more information. Thanks.
