Mastering Your Bernina Workbook for Owners of Bernina 450s

Good morning. As a first-time Bernina owner, I am going through the Mastery Workbook for Owners. I purchased the Anniversary Model No. 450, which is a fantastic machine and I am having a great time learning all the things it can do.

However, I was very disappointed when I began going through the workbook and realized that all of the information listed is for every machine EXCEPT the 450. I tried to match the 440 stitch numbers but not knowing what the actual stitches looked like, I stuggled and became disappointed.

Last night, my sewing angel (Bridget aka Bridget473) came to my plea for help and scanned her 440 stitch card and emailed it to me. I sat in bed last night until 2 a.m. looking at each of the 440 stitch pictures and matching the pictures and numbers up on the 450. They were very different and this (while being a long exercise) was a good thing.

This morning I created an Excel spreadsheet that gives more information than needed but I got on a tangent and listed all of the 440 stitch numbers and the corresponding stitch numbers for the 450 as well as stitch names where I could locate the actual names. I also included what stitches are not available to me that the 440 has as well as the stitches that my 450 has that the 440 doesn't have.

If any other 450 owners would like a copy of my spreadsheet so you can easily go through the workbook, please email me at mailto:[email protected] and I will be happy to email it to you.

Well, guess I can now go back to doing some actual stitching!

Are you talking about the 435 Anniversary model? I have one and it came with a card with all the stitches on it. The card slips in a holder on the handle. My instruction booklet seems to be more for the 440, but most things are the same. Check with your Bernina dealer where you bought it and I'm sure they would help with the instructions.

No, I have the little card that came with the machine.

The reason I created the spreadsheet is because of the Mastery Workbooks for Bernina owners. The workbook walks you through different sewing techniques by giving you the stitch number, stitch length, and stitch width.

Unfortunately, the workbook gives the correct stitch number for every machine Except the 450. The 450 machine stitch numbers do not match up with any of the other machines so I used a 440 stitch card and went through each of the stitches on it and matched it up with the 450 stitches and noted the numbers.

This way when you are working on the workbook and it says to use stitch number 21 on the 440, you know to need to use stitch number 24 on the 450 in order to get the same stitch.

Have you gone through the mastery workbook? I am amazed at what I've learned already and I've only gone through Sections 1 through 4.

My Mastery Book is on a CD. I see what you mean now. Thanks for the heads up about the numbers. I'll be careful to check the numbers out. I'm still so new with all the Bernina stuff! I haven't used the Mastery Book yet, but I know it will be alot of help.
